So very sad. Our thoughts are with their family and friends.

Many people, including pilots, don't appreciate just how thin the margin of safety can be in that line of work.

414 was one of the Good Guys. RIP.

News story mentioned they had 1600 gal of fuel and 2000 gal of product on board.

I'm not knowledeable on the fire fighting work, but it seems to me 1600 gal of fuel is an awful lot for a 30-60 min (?) flight in a P2. Is this a media screw-up? If it's true, did they really need 1600 gal to feed two recips for an hour?

i dont think they refuel for each drop under all circumstances.
