I don't hear any black helicopters . . . . I think you can relax. ;)

I chose the 717 (for commuting purposes) and I'm not sweating it.

BR715,

No one is going to get furloughed, if push comes to shove you will see the Spirit of the employee group. This company will battle till the option is exhausted. This means the AT side to. The 717 has been a fuel hog with these prices and GK knew this. We spent 22 million on the fltops side to not furlough in 08. You are about to see why we have so much pride in taking care of our own that includes YOU GUYS too. Remember Swa is running AT not your old MGT. Why stay on the 717 come over to the light bro.

Plus we have the lowest focasm on the 800 than any airline. This will fuel growth so the quicker we get them the better off.

I bet you do have the lowest forecast casm on the -800. How many seats are you going to cram in one? Who needs the forward and mid cabin lavatories when you can cram 9 more seats in the thing? Galleys? Who needs those when you can lock an overhead bin for peanut storage......Mmmmm, let's go to Hawaii!

Don't you find it odd coming so soon after the maintenance vote....scare the other side like they did with us.....

Think its around 175. Puts us lower than VA and even Spirit.

Also it looks like the Max series might show up sooner than 2017. We'll see.

Iaherj,

Do feel the need to be a hater. It was a positive post. I have flown on CO many times you guys have a great product, but thank god you aren't the front runner of custer service. You attitude would scare the customers.

Have you ever seen the 757-300? I deadheaded on that once from Florida to DTW and it was incredibly packed, maybe 220 seats with a first class section. It took forever for the pax to get off the plane. I hear that one has the best CASM around, just a 757 stretched to the max. And what about all of those 737-900ERs we're getting starting next year? Those will have great CASM too.

As far as your 717s go, if Boeing got a good deal, they would take them off of SWA's hands quickly. That may be one way a certain airline can take another one out of certain markets, albeit smaller markets. I bet GK's statement has perked the ears of a few CEOs, or at least one.

Godspeed!

I hope at least two. Rumor has it we are looking for a 100 seat jet and having flown the 717 I'd really rather have it on property rather than the C-series or whatever they are looking at. The 717 is a great aircraft for short haul markets UAL/DAL want to operate with mainline equipment. I can understand SWA not wanting the aircraft as 88 aircraft just increase costs when you are operating 700 737's all of which are very similar in size.

Texman,

Just pointing out that having the lowest casm isn't always something to brag about. Of course, operating 767's around with only 174 seats isn't something I should be bragging about either as it obviously doesn't work(we are parking 5 of these -200's this year). RASM becomes more important on the longer routes. Why else would airlines like Emirates and Singapore be investing in premium class seating and services that add weight and certainly take up cabin space? They have forced airlines like mine to offer lie flat seats on just about every Trans-Atlantic flight(757's included). The result, passengers like them and are willing to pay(cold hard cash or beau coupes of dividend miles) to sit up there.

I'm not sure how my pointing out that cramming a lot of coach seats into another airline's cabin is not something to brag about somehow shows that I'm cranky and a liability to my own airline in terms of customer service. I interact with passengers all the time and enjoy going flying. In fact, I'm looking forward to my trip tomorrow.
