File #: I – 11 – 212
Subject: Single Call Sign Migration
To: All B756 Pilots
On the last day of November, Continental Flight 86 will arrive in Newark from Shanghai. When
the crew accepts their clearance to the gate, it will mark the last time we utter “Continental” on
our radios. While we will experience mixed emotions with the retirement of our proud call sign,
our brand and our heritage lives on.
The Air Carrier Certificate employed by legacy United Airlines (UALA011A) will cease to
operate at 0600 Central time (1200Z) on 11/30/11. All legacy Continental and legacy United
flights will operate using the certificate currently employed by Continental (CALA014A). Both
legacy airlines will file flight plans and operate with “United” flight numbers.

I guarantee it will not be the last time someone utters "continental" on the radios.

I have let Jetlink slip out at least a couple dozen times in the last week!

Sept 1st ALPA wrote a letter to FAA adm. Babbit stating there us a problem with safety in the SOC.
An ex ALPA guy in an Obama administration siding with management????

Good riddance to Crapinental I mean Continental. If only the Scabs, Friends of Fred, Good Old Boys Club, and Disgusting Management would vanish as well. This place needs a deep cleaning. Like a full on Starbucks venti quad shot espresso enema.

They should call it delusional airlines. Thats what mgt thinks pilot's are and must be what the public is when they buy tickets expecting service.

And that stupid message Pierce sent out saying we should say "United flight XXX flown by proud Continental Pilots will never be uttered out of my mouth."
Same as that stupid "halfway to Hawaii game"

FUPM!

So the radar blip will be coded CAL, but the controller needs to say "United" if I read this right? This did not work at the nightmare AWA/AAA merger after the blip went to USA but the callsign went to Cactus. It was changed to AWE in about a week due to controllers set on saying the old callsign with the old blip. Time to get a new blip/ID or let the mayhem begin.

I would have to read it again but I believe the atc strip will say United too not Continental.
On another note Pierce should be reminded of the fo who got fired for an inappropriate PA and it took him a year and a half to get his job back. Obviously with all cases there was a little more to it then that but that was the excuse to fire him. Lets not give dumb reasons to take hostages.

No, every flight will be filed as UAL. Technically, the old United certificate is being retired Nonmember 30. Everything will be on the old CAL (New United) certificate. Call sign United, coded UA. At least that's how I understand the memo.

Yes yes you found me out. I couldn't find any puppies to kick so I took it out on Coex - whatever.

Sounds like you should work at CAL.

$50 an hour to fly an E-190 (major). Dude, I would be stomping on those puppies, but would be very careful making fun of anybody else.

get ready for a war at ual over scope. jeffy will move 70 seaters into iah and ewr just to piss off the pilots. and then say to grieve it, lawsuits are already lined up

You are absolutely right, but Fred's horrid stamp has been thrown down on this merger. It's clear Smizsac was sold on keeping Fred around by promises to keep things horrible. As a CAL guy I'm flat out embarrassed that UAL guys are being force shoveled our 'train by click' culture.

15+ years later and we are still dealing with the legacy of People Express and Texas Air. This merger is giving that fossil the opportunity to promote the next generation of Fred's friends. Of course they are 'highly qualified'. Witness our new AC First Officers.

Yup, an absolute embarrassment! How many hours does she have? 5000 maybe?.... having never been a captain at any airline on any equipment.

I always knew that interns were promised jobs. But management jobs no less! Who knew?

I think it's great. Now I get to share our call sign with the same folks who were happy to fly EAL routes while we were on strike. As an added bonus at no extra charge I will get to share the call sign with the EAL "loyal employees" that CO was happy to hire. At least they have all been forgiven in the name of economics by my union. good grief.

80% more than you make. 50% more than you made before this contract. 250% more when we snap up to our new rates because you asked. But you don't see me cruising this sight flinging poo at a great regional pilot group.

Yeah well be happy you don't have to sit next to them! Yet!

Damn I was hoping we would get a "Varney" call sign.

Right now my understanding is that flights will be ATC filed under UAxxxx instead of COxxxx and in the remarks will be Continental Livery if the aircraft is not yet painted in the UNITED font. The UA certificate is going bye bye while the CO certificate will be the surviving one.

Now exactly what time point the filings will be done, I do not know. I dont think the departures prior to 12z will be CO, but I will find out for sure tonight. Lots of questions out there still and no answers. Wonderful.

Interesting times indeed. Everything is going smoothly right? How were those printers working this morning in EWR guys?
