Ground handling - I'm pretty sure it was a carry over from the old NWA world. Why it persists, I'm not sure. It might have to do with language in the air services agreement that could have persisted since the sale. To be honest though, aside from the gate space issue, I'm not sure. Since the DAL/NWA merger though MSP is one of the few places that persists.

MX - There is a hangar in SDF, that's where the heavy stuff is done. Compass folks do the work there.

Hiring Requirements - Was in place for the flow originally, now why? The CBA requires ATP minimums for all new-hires. Other requirements are due to management caprice I suppose. Generally, I think the company believes in their process and likes who they get. Not saying its right or wrong, but its how they like it. Market forces may force a change in that eventually.
 
Even thought Compass was sold to Trans States, Delta still owns the aircraft, although I would need an MBA to explain that arrangement to me.

Also, no flow up for new hires anymore.

They use the Delta pilot interview process.
