How exactly does an airline making a profit in post 9/11 (that is getting new aircraft and growing) make it to the unemployment line (quickly, anyway)?

AWA ruined US Airways chance to draw unemployment by saving their butts from chapter 7. West saved East. My post didn't come off right - sorry.
