What was in it?

Good stuff, bad stuff, no stuff? Why is it unbelievable? Is mailing something to you against some rule?

Seems like both sides are a little touchy...geez

Each Pilot Group is represented by their own union. You don't make an end-run around the negotiating committee and make a pitch to the individual pilots. It's considered bad form.

If you've ever been in prolonged Contract Negotiations, and had management send something to your home, or addressed to your spouse, well, then you know what we're talking about. I'm surprised SWAPA didn't realize that, but there are some new guys in there that might not have realized what a gaffe it was.

I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Propaganda, disguised as company literature...mailed from SWAPA. Recurring theme: "It's all about the money! It's all about the money!"

The hornets are finally buzzing. Thanks for rallying the troops SWAPA! Hope your members' union dues didn't go towards this garbage, because that's exactly where it ended up.

ATLPilot,

I was in DAL last week for recurrent and we actually had our VP of Flight Ops come in and brief our class. He actually brought in a copy of the mailer and stated it was a collaborative mailer between SWA and SWAPA to help the AAI pilot group understand the lifestyle of the average SWA pilot.

I am sorry you took that as propaganda because from what I saw it was a welcome aboard packet designed to give you better insight to SWA operations. I haven't read through it all but from what I did see I thought it was a nice gesture.

Thanks!

The FDX ALPA MEC thanks you. We appreciate the business.

An AirTran buddy of mine called and said he thought it was useful information and asked me to thank everyone in Dallas for taking the time to reach out to him.

From what he said it was nothing more than a factual presentation of pay and benefits from SWA, our VP of Flight Operations and SWAPA.

It's not the message, it's the going around our MC to deliver it part.

Need I say more.

Unbelievable!

Yeah, do tell? Is it the same package we all got from the Company?

Why would SWA go through ALPA to talk to you instead of going directly to you?

SWA management only deals with SWAPA not ALPA. I don't find this weird or surprising at all. Do you really?

It was from SWAPA . . . . I don't think it will be received as intended . . . . bypassing the Union and sending stuff to the pilots' homes goes against the spirit of negotiations, and smells a little desperate.

Have a great weekend, I'm outta here.

I'm not sure that I follow Ty...especially since I have no idea what was in the packet. I am gathering that it was informational and covered our pay structure and benefits package...correct? If that's the case, I don't understand why you think that your MC should have proofed and signed off on it first. Especially if there was info in there from SWA Management.

I don't see the harm in your future employer sending you info. (Unless you don't want the facts getting out to your pilot group)

Sounds like it's from Chuck McGill and Co. My tranny said he appreciates the info and can't wait to be a SWAPA Pilot. Get on the list dude! I said.

You don't know how it was intended. (neither do i) but from what I hear we are not the ones who are getting a a little desperate. (remember this last part)

SWAPA is SWA, ALPA isn't.

This Tranny appreciated it. Not sure if there was some propaganda message behind it or not but the info was helpful. The timing might seem suspicious to some but so be it. There are some who are suspicious of everything. For me I would really hate to know what to expect when I am integrated. ;-) To those who spent the time to put this package together Thank You.

On another note does anyone know why the negotiations were pushed back to the the 11'th?

If it had a letter from Chuck Magill in it, it had to be from SWA at least in part. If SWA Flight Ops wants to get some information out to the employee group that they are bringing on, id say that's their prerogative. Is it some sort of comparative benefit package? I figured they probably sent you guys one back in September.
