Remember when you were working your way up the aviation ladder the realy cheap jobs were for the young low timers.
If you dont need the money find a local group that transports needy patients for angle flights.

I think what he may be saying is that there is a retired airline guy, who has already had a full career in aviation, lowering the bar and doing the work real cheap just to be able to keep flying and go to some cool places,... while the original poster is out busting his hump in a less than desirable job just trying to make it.

yes this is exactly what is going on. although this place hasn't been bad at all up until this little episode, but I find it completely unacceptable. some old fart taking food of my table cause he is tired of day trading stocks and playing golf for retirement. politics as usual, as they say.

Just thought that since you said you were looking for the exit door that this was your full time employer.

From what I hear contractors who undercut everyone dont last long...not that this helps you today.

i'm full time but we get pay for flying in addition to our salary.

Last year, when i was unemployed and trying to survive doing contract work, I had the same thing happen to me.....

Retired Major Airline Capt had taken an early out and got a job flying corp for the past several years. He had lost his corp job in July, but was getting paid thru the end of the year. Friend of mine called and asked if this guy could call and ask some questions about contract flying (as we both flew the same type of aircraft).

Anyway, he ends up finding out who I fly for somehow - wasn't hard, as there was only one of those types of aircraft in the the area.

He calls me and tells me that he figured out who I was flying for and that he had met the owner before. He then proceeds to tell me how he will talk to the owner and charge a lower rate than I do. He also says he will probably be used more since he will non-rev (using his old airline pass/travel privileges) to where the aircraft is, instead of having the company buy him a ticket like they did for me.....blah, blah, blah

So not only was he getting paid a severence for the next six months, he calls and asks for my help, then tries to undercut me to take work away.

I don't have a problem with anyone making an honest living. I DO have a problem with whoring yourself out.

Sandhawk--tell that guy he's lowering the bar on the profession. This is no different than an airline--whoever takes lower pay is hurting everyone.

Was this guy completely oblivious, or did he realize that his plan was to screw you, and just decided to rub it in?

I don't know about you, but in my book, that's grounds for a good old fashioned a$$ whopping! (a little game of parking garage baseball)

I used to have the same type problem, but with retired military pilots, both on contract and full time positions.

"Well I retired as an 0-4/0-5 and I only need X amount of salary to make what I was before I retired."

What really irritated me was, not only were they cutting their throats, they were cutting ours as well. Finally a couple of retire Lt. Col. finally showed up and helped to change the under cutters. As one told me when he applied for a job with us; "What I earned in the past, is in the past. I want to be paid for what I do now."

I hired him.
