Lots of chat about a "big" announcement Oct 6th. Airbus 321's to replace 75's. New York discussed. What the intelligence? Another "jumpseat rumor" or some fact?

Buying A321's to replace 757's is like buying a Lincoln to replace a Beemer. They may cost the same, be the same size but the can't do the same things.

Your right, but they sure can fly routes like JFK-MIA alot cheaper than a 757 can. It is obviously not a good airframe for flights longer than about 5 hours or shorter fields, but there are alot of 757 routes that could be done cheaper with 321's.

Yeah???? Short to medium segments with high volume the A321 might be better. South America and the other long segs that AA does with the 75, not even an option with the 321....... The boeing is a MACHINE.....the 321 is a gutless pig....they may have the same capacity, but i would change the automotive comparisons to that of an M5 and a Plymoth Volare......

Why buy the M5 when the pax pay for a Plymouth? You COULD just slap "Luxury Liner" on them and no one would be the wiser. :)

Why not just buy 737-900ER's and keep a common type rating? Unless they are trying to get a common fleet type for their future merger partner (US or B6)?

10/6 should hear some trans-atlantic expansion from ORD or JFK, havent heard anything about new aircraft/fleet types.

Beemers suck, go Audi! ;)

I could be wrong, but doesn't the -900ER require special training? I know that under JAA you can fly all 737NG series with a TR except the ER type. Not sure if it is the same under FAA regs.

CAL flies all models with just differences training. And from what the CAL guys have said, there's not a whole lot of differences between the 900 and the 900ER. I think one guy told me it was just a 2-position tail skid.

Put a HEMI in that Plymouth...M5 wouldnt have a chance...

Who was quoted saying American would never operate another Airbus product? Was it Crandall or Papa Don Carty? I don't remember.

6 posts until someone brought up a merger. That was longer than I thought it would be!

Merger with US Air? Geez, I hope not. I don't think even the present AA management is stupid enough to do that . . . . again.

If AA ever goes with another Airbus, it'll because they get them ultra-cheap.

Thats why a lot of airbuses are sold.Price-Price_Price.With the rapidly changing technology, airlines go for cheap use and discard airframes.Lower cycle limits dont seem to matter today.

I sure miss the mad dogs,oh wait, there still flying.

read on another board AA could get 25 777-300s from another carrier.

Ah who knows...been lots to talk about lately.

The 737-900 is a replacement for nothing. I fly it overseas and it is a dog. It barely has enough guts to get out of its own way. I do not believe that it could even operate out of most of AA's South American cities. It has a limited role that it is good at and is in no way a replacement for 757's.

Lol, 25 777s??? Maybe You are getting AA and Emirates confused. ;)

Neither... they were built specifically for AA. The AA Airbus A300's were the 600R if I recall. The Pan Am and Eastern jets were of the -B2 series. An earlier generation with analog and a third seat. Someone here might have have more detailed info than my limited knowledge on history and aviation.

757s? Why worry about the 757s now? The 757ERs are probably working well on the thinner Euro flights. I assume they are looking domestically.

How about look at the grubby, maintenance-hog MD80s? Talk about fuel inefficient. Plus, they look so old and worn inside - not impressive at all. I would think a big Boeing order of 800s and 900ERs to replace the MD80s (how many MD80s does AA have now - 250 MD80s?) and 757s would make a lot more sense. Why introduce a new type rating to the mix?

The only way I could see adding the A321 would be for a really huge order of A320s (MD80 replacement) and A321s (maybe domestic 757s) to justify a new type rating and operating experience. Those A320s/21s would probably fit well with Jet Blue's fleet.... But I guess those decisions are waaaaaaaay over my pay range.

Merger with Virgin America. Carty's coming back. He hadn't screwed up AA enough. It's gonna be ugly; get out that KY jelly!

This is kinda funny, a urinary olympics about which "twin" is better. Not to be a smarta** but I would rather anything made in North America over Euro beer cans at 370.
