For some unknown reason I was off of FI and was flipping through the channels on my new FLAT SCREEN TV and I happened upon WGN (in Chicago) and I saw the latest SWA TV commercial. A couple of rampers are trying to pull over a plane, saying they are charging too much for bags, up to $120 per trip. Well, that may be lost revenue for the airline, but they are trying to pull over a Volaris A319. Wait, they are trying to pull over the airline that SWA wanted to fly for them to Mexico? Shouldn't those two Bo and Luke Dumbazz Captains (in the previous commercial) be the ones trying to chase that A319 out of town? They should be saying "Hey, we want to fly NONSTOP to Mexico (that was the jist of their own commercial), so get out of here! Git, Git!"

Kinda funny commercials, but not really. WORK ON IT. Do Cheap Fares equal CHEAP commercials? Who are directing these? Kids?

PS---Enjoy AMA, LBB, MAF, ISP, and now EWR!!!! (HAHAHAHAHHAHA)

17% increase in RASM last quarter with historical high load factor.

Probably just a coincidence.

Gup

I have a feeling MANY airlines will be reporting the same or better. Just think, if you guys did charge for bags, how much MORE money you could have made. You used to never charge for anything, but you did start a "priority" seating charge, and with your increasing longevity for your employee group, I wouldn't put it past your management to add some more fees to pay for it.

Regardless, good for you guys, and use some of that money to make new commercials. And, you didn't say anything about the Volaris A319. How are your planned Mexico routes coming? You would think with Mexicana down you would try something maybe? Maybe not. You have to get your management to trust you first.

I've drawn one conclusion from all those Southwest ads that have pilots in them:

only dorks volunteer to be in commercials.

I know there are many other factors involved, but when aircraft are flying full and the average fare is the average fare-- the airlines charging for bags must absolutely laugh at the ones that don't all the way to the bank!!!

Last time I checked , we are still making more money per seat filled without charging for bags than anyone else, so what u say makes 0 sense, clarify if I am wrong....please do

I personally beat you in 4 layovers. 3 in Europe, and one in Argentina. But, you did beat me in ELP layovers, AMA turns, LBB throwups, and MAF shtsz. Good for you! You lose.

Extra profits is better for your company, right? Maybe extra profits means more PROFIT SHARING? It will for some carriers. More later on that. So, when will the Volaris guys start flying Mexico for you?

Did anyone catch the SWA commercial where they change the tire and the comment one pilot makes about flying "15000 flights per year"? Now I know it is a joke but kind of ironic coming from SWA pilot(s), the original work for less, PFT, no pension, fly 1000 hr/year under cutters.

I have to ask, how many this board who were SWA qualified (met their mins) prior to 911 (remember when all the career majors like DAL/UAL/AA were hiring) actually applied there? I remember the pages from my 1997 Air Ink salary data for DAL/AAA/AA/UAL were worn thin but the SWA and AWA pages were fingerprint free.

Now the post 911 puppy mill (and MIL) guys think a career at SWA/AT/JB is all the rage.

OK, I'll bite. If you break it down to money per seat, you are dead wrong.

2nd Q 8-K SEC data,

Southwest
Income($112.0Mil) / Rev Pax (23.05Mil) = $4.86 profit per passenger

Allegiant
Income($28.1Mil) / Rev Pax (1.54Mil) = $18.25 profit per passenger

Alaska
Income($84.0Mil) / Rev Pax (4.17Mil) = $20.14 profit per passenger

Oh please. He probably makes more as a SWA FO than you do!

To you, every SWA guy makes more than every DL pilot..... That really isn't the case on APC.com, but you knew that. And, when the rates become equal or better in the next contract at the legacy, you will surely change your stance, right? There will be very little to brag about then for those guys. Your arguments lead nowhere, just like your RJ to Dayton.

What other kind of TV's are there? You sure that wasn't a JetBlue Airbus?

Has anyone seen the Delta ad..

Where you can get a free checked bag if you use their credit card?

Really?? Shouldn't it be free to BEGIN with? Wasn't it free just over a year ago?

Incredible marketing from the Delta wizards. Makes me laugh everytime I see it.

General, you really show your arrogance and ignorance with statements like this. Seat for seat, year for year Southwest pilots make more. Add in the fact that we can work as much as we want to, and it blows Delta earning potential out of the water...it's not even close. Live with it.

As far as profit sharing (which you haven't seen in many, many years), Southwest has been depositing checks in employee accounts every year consistantly. Some as high as 14% of their annual pay.

Delta..not so much.

Come back with facts General.

Oh my god! A flat screen TV! And new!

Now I know you're a rich airline pilot.

You need a new angle on your SW attacks!! These are getting old and quite lame.

I really worry about some of you whose importance in life is wrapped up in what you fly and who you fly it for. What is the point of this thread?

GL is a wannabe Delta pilot. He has some kind of inferior complex to those who work at SWA. Kinda sad.

I would be thrilled if Delta negotiates a contract tha is industry leading..

Did it once, to eventually have a CFO sell fuel hedges that lead to billions in losses and then a BK. The Dalpa contract came via the UAL contract, which lead to SWA's current high wages.

No, not really. Just very observant. It is fun to watch how worked up SWA pilots get when someone states that he/she just doesn't want to do what they do. The pay is great, no doubt, but the work in one plane forever, with multiple leg days and 25 min turns, passing through ELP, just isn't for everyone, to their dismay! But explaining this to you, "say again" (how apropos--thanks Robin Leach) is work itself. Read post slowly and try to understand.
