Has a strike ever shutdown an airline?

Title pretty much sums it up. Management always says that they will close up shop if a strike happens. I'm just wondering if a strike has ever actually lead to a company shutting down.

If you're asking about a purely pilot only strike then the answer is no.

If you're asking about a strike of any kind then I suppose you could say the Eastern mechanics strike would qualify. The airline was headed in in the gutter to begin with, thanks to the spaceman and the devil, but the strike (honored by the pilots) sealed the deal.

Yeah by shutdown I mean no longer exists. So it sounds like its a rare thing then even though the company always says thats what they will do. Sorry if the questions sound dumb, but I'm still young and growing up no one in my family did this kind of work so I never followed strikes before.

Seriously ? Western Airlines was bought, aquired ( or whatever you want to call it) and merged into Delta sometime in the mid to late 80's.

Pacific Southwest Airlines, the real PSA in the 70's had a pilot strike, and the real estate management firm that owned PSA were busying threatening the pilot group with changing their certificate so they could hire replacement pilots. PSA is no longer with us but the San Diego real estate management firm is.
