What's the consensus at United regarding scope? Are most pilots hoping and expecting to "fix" scope? Every CAL pilot I've spoken to view scope as NOT FOR SALE - an issue we're willing to "go the distance" for. Is the feeling the same at UAL?

Note: I would expect the sentiment at United to be even more determined. Regardless, IMHO this merger, SLI, etc. will all hinge on scope relief. We control what we will ratify in a JCBA. We have very little control over SLI. A strong, United (pun intended) pilot group can certainly "put the genie back in the bottle". That will make everything else down the line, especially SLI, a lot more palatable.

All of your pilots could get paid 500 bucks an hour but if your jobs can be outsourced than your payrates and contract are worthless!

Ask the Midwest guys how not having scope protection worked for every single Midwest pilot from number 1 on down!!!

I think that most fervently hope that scope can be taken back to no larger than 50 seats. Personally, I think that is unrealistic in the execution. However, I do believe that it would be possible to STOP increases in 50+ airframes within the system beyond what is currently allowed.

Hopefully reasonable minds will prevail.

Or they could limit anymore growth and agree not to renew their contracts when they do expire...

It was one individual that took it upon himself, with out presenting the facts to the pilot group at UAL to sign off on the 70 seaters. He did so thinking he was going to save the pensions. Worked out well didn't it!!!!

You would think that these contracts with these 70 seat operators have language in them that allows this flying as long as there isn't a change in the Pilots' CBA prohibiting them. Therefore, if a new JCBA comes out that prohibits RJ's greater than 50 seats, then I would think that these agreements could be terminated on the 70 seat contracts. If UAL/CAL wants this Merger badly enough, then they WILL give in on 70 seat flying to get both Pilot groups onboard.

United and CAL are two of the biggest RJ w************************* out there. It's nice to see a few of their pilots talking about taking it back.

It would be good for the industry.

Wondering if you got the intent of my previous post.......

In my book - ALL UNITED flying should be flown by mainline. 1 seat 2 seats 50 seats etc.

But I can live with 50 seat scope with a cap on the number and no hub to hub flying.

Uh! Really? Doesn't CAL still have 50 seat jet scope? DAL/NWA, UAL, LCC all have 70 and above RJ's and even AMR has some CRJ700's. I appreciate your support to take it back, but please post factual information, it will give you credibility.

Yeah i got it, I wasnt saying it directly to you. it was a blanket statement to get guys to THINK ;)

More than 250 35/50 seat RJs and how many 70-seat Q400s? There's a lot of flying CAL's not doing.

and sadly, that is the tightest of all the Legacy scope clauses... it can't get any more lenient.

I too think, if it says CAL or UAL on the tail, it should be flown accordingly by CAL/UAL pilots. simple truth in advertising. What the "new mgt" is looking for is ratios. So what is the proper ratio to farm out flying/scope/mainline jobs??? (mgt's question not mine... and a false choice)

Ok 100% mainline and NO outsourcing of flying. Send them that 'ratio'... :)

As I read a lot of post reference scope I see one common statement and it goes kind of like this "They will not park 70 seat rj's, we could stop the growth but that's it". Well it is funny how easy it was to park 94 B737's and replace them with RJ flying, so tell me why we couldn't fight to take back that flying and park the 70+ seaters and cap the RJ flying to 50 or less seats and cap the regional flying to half of what it is today? I know it will be an uphill battle because there will always be a low time pilot our there willing to fly a jet for next to nothing and management will always want to exploit that. We all need to work together to strengthen scope and regionals pilots should support this agenda. Regional pilots I hope will also fight for a new CBA bringing up the pay and QOL for regional pilots alike, the regionals aren't the as they were in the 90's These days regionals are practically all jet operators. We have to tighten scope and everyone needs a united front on this issue. This will only provide better opportunities in the future for all pilots lagacy an regional pilots alike.
