Delta completes sale of flight training academy
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 31, 2009

Delta has completed the sale of Delta Connection Academy to two private equity firms, Lincolnshire Management Inc., and GTI LLC.

The Orlando-based flight training school began operation in 1989 as Comair Aviation Academy as a source of professionally trained, qualified pilots for its parent airline, Comair, and other carriers.

In January 2000, Delta purchased Comair and its subsidiaries, including Comair Aviation Academy, and later changed the school’s name to Delta Connection Academy.

As part of the sale agreement, the school will continue to use the Delta Connection Academy name for nine months, after which it will be known simply as DCA. It will continue to provide flight training for regional and private air services.

I can't believe somebody would pay $100,000 to get a pilots license, you can get a college education and all license up to cfi for $45,000. But I guess people go here for the same reason people go to Mesa, quick upgrade. Wondering how no degree and working at Mesa is turning out?

And Mesa is not a quick upgrade anymore..... nor are any regionals.

Glad they sold it.... time to get rid of all the "owned" regionals.

Source please?

Source please?

It was posted on the Delta employee website under "Industry News"...also a press release on it which I'm not going to bother to look up because it is popular knowledge that they have been trying to sell the Academy for some time now.

Sorry, no rumor or conspiracy here.

:smash:

No conspiracies insinuated.
If this is true, it was bound to happen soon.
I suspect with the funding for student loans drying up, the profit margin was gone.

They will never go away, they will just decrease in stature.

I agree and I hope all regional growth is halted in favor of growth for the majors. But did you forget where you came from?

Interesting that you look forward to their demise now. Were you wishing for it while sitting in the right seat of an RJ/120?
