When heading East out of FCM or when returning from the East, is there any other possible routing I can file to avoid getting stuck down low and via Farmington? Is it not practical by any routing to shoot over the top of MSP?

Thanks! :)

What altitudes are we talking here?

I'll give you one good reason, M98 doesn't want you or anyone else blasting through their DR, TAR and AR airspace. It is easier to route you around MSP inbound/outbound traffic than it is to thread you and them through each other.

Not sure if that's what they call it there, but:

DR= Departure

TAR= Terminal Arrival (The Approach Controller you talk to who assigns the runway and sequences you to the final controller)

AR=Final

If you are talking to a M98 controller, you're probably talking to a satellite sector.

Thanks, that is the perceivable reason, you're correct. There are several DPs and STARs for the airport, but we never get them, which I would think that those procedures take into account MSP traffic. It ends up being a vectored departure/arrival to/from flight level altitudes.

What type of airplane are you talking about? We fly a Citation II and most of our flying is east; we usually come home on the Agude arrival, crossing Agude at 8000 then usually vectored over the top of MSP. Beats crossing 45 out of FCM at 4000.

If you are more Southeast then file Twolf.twolf1. Keeps you higher and usually once you get past Waterloo MSP will give you direct Target if you ask them.

Thanks. It's an AC-695A Jetprop Commander. Perhaps controllers see AC95 and assume that it doesn't have the performance?

I'm curious if any other turboprop operators experience the same routing issues to/from FCM. Any King Air or Pilatus folks get the same low routing for 45nm?
