Good question. The answer is: It depends on how fast this thing takes to run its course and how scared the public is of it.

If very few people die and it goes away quick, then I predict minimal impact. If the virus mutates, becomes more virulent and a lot of people die, then we would see a serious decrease in traffic. Some of it government mandated.

My guess is the former. But it's just a guess.

That's too severe at this point. This virus isn't that dangerous. Over 35,000 people die in the US from the "standard" flu. This one is no where near that virulent...

Yet.

You've been watching to many zombie movies :)

Which depends on the press how they portary the "severity" of this bug. Since a lot of folks are glued to CNN (worthless) for their news source I am sure the effects will be detrimental to those who wil be affected by this directly; pig farms.

On the other hand I hope the US more so the state of Texas bans all incoming and outgoing traffic which would be nice as to cut down on the illegal immigrants that cross over into our country and my home state. Maybe this will even cut down on the coyotes who smuggle illegals on a daily basis; in fear of potentially catching this disease. Mexicans are notorious for being afraid of disease especially the ones that are associated with the potential cause of their own death.

Its the swine flu not Lassa Fever, Ebola, Hanta Virus or...Herpes Simplex 9.

Thanks

Thank you Axel....
Maybe it is better you tell him yourself.

Kent Brockman: Hordes of panicky people seem to be evacuating the town for some unknown reason. Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

Professor: Yes I would, Kent.

Thanks Poahi, I posted those on the company site, but forgot to here. Doh!.

The original question posed is a valid one and I think this thread has not shown any sign(s) of irrational thought...yet. Maybe that's why I didn't.

Oh, and my statement about the 35,000 deaths should have the words "each year" at the end.

source: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.htm At the bottom.

Yep-

Judging by the ratings, almost everyone else must agree that Fox News is the most fair and balanced.

-Pretty embarrassing for everyone else.

That link outright states that Fox caters to the "disaffected conservatives," which is hardly a confirmation of how "fair and balanced" they are. News should be facts, not facts + opinions!

I like BBC world service and NPR news. Both attempt to report the news, not the political view. (I do concede that some of the NPR shows are decidedly to the left, but the NPR news itself is some of the most non-biased news out there, I think second to the BBC news.)

Since the beginning of March, CNN has fallen behind both the longtime ratings leader, Fox News Channel, which, as the voice of disaffected conservatives, again has an imposing lead, and the upstart MSNBC, which has tried to mirror Fox’s success by steering to the left.

Fox News is not "fair and balanced," that much is true. However it's the only news channel that I can stand to watch lately.

Look at all the countries that have it. O Bin Laden said a few weeks back that something was coming for us.
