Not trying to beat a dead horse. I just get the feeling that some folks at Skywest believe they are immune to furlough. All I am gonna say is, get your finances in order. Consider the dismal earnings report as a shot across the bow. The stock is tumbling and Jerry, Chip, Brad, etc. are under scrutany from the share holders. BTW, I don't work for SkyWest and therefor don't get the SAPA updates. My source is someone within the SGU inner circle. But hey, carry on, nothing to see here.

4th Qtr. profit halved from last year due to too many pilots. That's straight from Brad Rich via the Conference Call. Now true, that may be from the ASA side, but I doubt it as 80 went on furlough last week.

SkyWest downgraded to Sell at Argus . Argus downgrades SKYW to Sell from Hold saying they expect capacity reductions at major airlines to continue to reduce block hours and available seat miles at SkyWest. Firm also projects few opportunities for additional contracts or expansion of existing agreements, restricting revenue and earnings growth.

SKW has 12 airplanes worth of crews in the YX/MKE operation...running about 100 flights a day for a carrier that isn't even a shadow of what it once was and could very well not be around next week. Lose that portion of the overall operation and, suddenly, your already fat crew roster is morbidly obese.

Coupled with this and you start to begin to see etchings of what may come.

A good number of the folks who were making the decisions on Virginia Ave (and some of there more experienced and capable minions) have recently been displaced by NWers from Minnie.......

Some real heartache for those who sweated and bled widgets now looking for employment, and a bunch of new people moving into place who's perspectives, priorities and loyalties are very different. Some are already making decisions whose results have not yet started to percolate out into operations or marketing, yet........

I dont claim to know what the changes will be, but I do believe that some seismic shifts are coming after the dust settles in the G.O......

Wow, thanks for the civil reply. Do you always revert to bashing people when they say things you don't agree with? You must be a ball to fly with. Like I said before, I still have quite a few friends at SkyWest so I absolutely am not wishing for your demise. I just hope folks don't get caught with their pants down. Good luck guys.

I have it from a very reliable source at SkyWest that unless something significant changes between now and then, furloughs are coming in the fall. Good luck guys.

From now till fall is an eternity in aviation time. A few months ago everyone was going out of business because the cost of fuel was almost 150 a barrel.

Please! Your reliable source is an email from SAPA that there's no furloughs till atleast the fall. You shouldn't read into that cause what it was saying is that the UAL and DAL schedules given to Skywest so far only go to the fall, so we just don't know what UAL or DAL will do at that point. They could cut Skywest flights at that point or maybe not. They could cut any regional's flights or add. They probably don't know themselves at this point themselves. So please stop trying to stir up some trouble.

UAL is still figuring how many more planes to park and how many pilots ot furlough on top of the already announced 1450.

Skywest has NEVER furloughed pilots nor have they given any indication that they might. I believe they recognize that furloughs have a cost far beyond the money saved - retraining, no one picking up open time or answering their phones, morale costs, etc. It will be a last resort. The sky isn't falling but I'm digging out my raincoat.

Are they asking pilots to LOAs for an extended period of time? Are they trying to find additional flying for the a/c that came from your Midwest Express side?

If you answered yes, which we all know you should have, to these questions then you should be concerned about the "F" word at Skywest.

To be honest they don't really seem to be in a hurry to finalize the VLA program. I wasn't interested in taking a VLA, but there is another job that pays well and would require a full-time status and it seems as though the rush to get the VLA has faded. That's really to bad because the longer they take, the less people that may be interested in taking a LOA.

I'm most concerned with the entire Midwest flying that we do. I could see an easy 400 to 500 pliot F'd if Midwest shutsdown. But there's no sense in sitting around worrying about "ifs". Live life, enjoy where you're at and appreciate what a company like SkyWest has to offer is employees.

Wow, I post a link to a news article and you revert attacking me. Nice. For the record, I am not sitting in front of my computer hoping for the demise of SkyWest. Quite the contrary. I believe in the long term SkyWest Inc. is gonna be ok and may very well end up owning all or part of Mesa, getting some flying in Brazil, etc. but in the short term there is a rough road ahead. And more immature attacks coming in 3, 2, 1....

It's funny how people post the media stories when it supports their point, but when the media writes about an airline accident we all see the blatant errors. I wonder (actually I don't really care) how accurate any of the news stories are for everyone that has posted a link in this thread about the financial strength of United, Midwest, SkyWest and their respective futures.
