Attention AirTran: We appreciate that you're trying to make a buck by selling upgrades to people after they've already boarded your planes. After all, you're in business to make money not friends. But is this the best way to describe your new spring-for-business-class deal?
"A lot of people see [business class] and say, `Wow, I want to sit there,'" says AirTran spokesman Tad Hutcheson. "People say, `I want to buy that seat because I don't want to be, you know, crammed in the back.'"
If you don't want to get stuck with a sucky seat, we have a better idea than paying $50-$100 for an in-flight upgrade that may or may not be available: JetBlue offers at least three inches more seat pitch than AirTran, and Southwest also spaces its seats a bit farther apart than its competitor.

Well, maybe they value being "on time" and want to avoid "cattle-car" boarding procedures and fighting for a seat.

Or old Md-80s that suck, 757s that don't have air vents;or a rj waiting for your pink tag in the rain cold snow?

You selling tickets or something?

uhhh.....do you think anybody really gives a cr@p what you think about management and their pitch on flying business versus coach at " the tran".

Dude....we just fly the planes, but thanks for chimin' in.

Not sure what you are really trying to say other than...my dad can beat up your dad.... the oft heard theme here on Flightinfo. Yawn....snoozers.

I can't believe I wasted 60 seconds of my life responding to this.

I've have rode on Jetblue and it is a no brainer if choosing a coach seat and flying from the Northeast to Florida or to the West coast, I would choose Jetblue over Airtran every day of the week.

However for example, to go from Orlando to Denver on Jetblue, you would have to go to JFK first which would add 4 or 5 hours to total travel time. Airtran has the benefit of a very convienent connection hub in ATL and BWI. Airtran has a better network for people traveling from points in the Midwest and Southeast than Jetblue does.

If you want to save money, and if being on time is important, and you don't like flying long range on RJ's, then Spirit is probably a better choice.
