Let's face it most of the furloughs happening wouldn't be if there was no age 65. All you can do is smile knowing those greedy scum sucking F#$^ers are going to die on the job.

I am being furloughed in Sept. and it sucks. Left a good paying Capt. job to take a chance, now looking at unemployment, maybe foreclosure next year...
Am extremely angry at United for bringing us all on and furloughees back, then kicking us to the street.
And, at alpa for the outsourcing that is the REAL source of job losses, NOT age 65.

Who is the selfish pig here? The healthy 60 year old who takes care of himself and is of sound mind, who does not want to suffer age discrimination, or the younger, upgrade focused FO or junior Capt. who thinks the age 60 rule was put there for their career progression?
News for you, it was not. It was there because of concern over medical certification, and for false security for the public(like today's TSA).
Medical certification is the ONLY valid reason in this country, where we say we do not discriminate, for establishing an age limit, not career progression, retirement, pensions, etc.

Sorry, I hate to take the other position, I would not be furloughed if not for the unfortunate timing of this new rule.
But that is what it is- unfortunate timing of a rule which is actually reducing discrimination in our profession.

Same will happen if, someday, alpa can reform itself and become a true national union by incorporating one seniority list, and contract standards covering all sizes of carriers. Good for the long run, but painful for some in the first years.

Yeah, but he'll still have a job.

Are those same F/O's doing anything to make sure that their congressional representatives get to go home for good in November? More than just voting? Phone calls? Volunteering for the opponents campaign? Donating $$ to that camapign?

Remember every vote in the House was a "yes" vote...and 45 Representatives chose not to even vote at all.

And in the Senate...they voted "Unanimous Consent" for this to pass.

Mmmmm.... I wonder who helped get it to the house floor...

The age 60 rule was initiated by AA and the head of FAA back in 59. It was a deal to get the old guys out transitioning to jets. It shouldn't have been done then and now it has been reversed. It should never have happened so now it is corrected.

Get over it. The guys that get to stay now til 65 if they want aren't restricted by a deal struck up by AA and the FAA head, that coincidentaly ended up at AA in 1959.

75,000 at the DNC...I wonder how many will turn out for McCain? I'm guessing he didn't book a baseball stadium..
