Any Companies to contact to ship to South America?

I have some cargo to ship to South America, and Fedex/UPS are way to expensive. Any ideas if other cargo companies may be cheaper?

Thx.

Well why didn't you say it had to be cheap?

Fedex and UPS are expedited methods.

Send it via Container Ship. American Presidential Lines or Maersk Line are probably your best bets.

Most South American countries require importers to be licensed to import product. There are fairly restrictive conditions on the shipment of personal effects if you are not a national of the country you are shipping to as well. Cost wise unless it is exceptionally large cargo FedEx/UPS will probably be the cheapest option.

Can you advise approximate weight/size of the product and where you are shipping it to?

These would not be personal effects. Instead it would be picking up stuff others want to ship, consolidating it, and sending it down. A sample load might be 1000 cubic feet 10x10x10 and 600 pounds. Dimenensions could be rearranged to fit a cargo hold. Perhaps overseas would be the best way to go.

That's an interesting point to being a licensed importer. Thanks for the names (not links) to the shipping companies.

Sounds about the size of a cookie sheet for a freighter. If you want to send heavy cargo to Central or South America, forget about FredEx or Brownstain-use Arrow Air. If you ship by air, nothing is going to be cheap, but they'll be a whole lot cheaper that those other two. You will have to deliver the freight to their terminal in MIA and pick it up at the destination, but they will build it up for you in MIA.

http://arrowair.com/ Good luck

That would be acting as an indirect air carrier and thus enters the world of need to know TSA stuff. Your ability to collect people's stuff and ship it without appropriate licenses, authorizations, etc. is going to be minimal as carriers will be unable to accept your cargo.

You also would have a lot of challenges getting the product through Customs at destination (given you are talking South of the Border).

Yep. That's what I want to do, but it may not be feasible. There's a market here, just need to figure out what will work and what won't. Maybe there is too much government red tape.

Any tips, web sites etc on starting an indirect shipping business would be appreciated.
