Hey- he's made it perfectly clear. He's not making this a partisan effort, and he's already made his money. He's doing this for America. Quite frankly, this is far more pure than any in Washington are working for. This country needs an enema, and it should start in the Capital....................

I love how he's coming out trying to help now that he has made his billions in oil speculation.

Who cares? That should give him more credibility than anyone else. He is a huge energy guy, and a an immensely successful businessman which means his plan can work. We need people like him to kick the industry and government in the a$$ and get action now.

I love how he's coming out trying to help now that he has made his billions in oil speculation.

As others have stated, he does not hide his oil success. The important things to consider are:

1.He's using much of his own money and assets to push this. Yes, he stands to make another huge profit, but also risks a loss.

2. It's the right thing to do. As he says, it's only one piece to the puzzle, but it fits and the picture would be incomplete without it.

Now, if we could change the public mentality to accept massive nuclear power, we'd be on our way. Aside from being greenhouse friendly, nuclear power is the ONLY way presently to efficiently produce Hydrogen for fuel.

National Review had an article about the Pickens Plan this week pointing out the many problems with it, i.e. 20% is the maximum the engineers believe can be incorporated due to its unstable and unpredictable nature making it very difficult to match supply with demand (that is why the Dutch stopped building wind turbines); even with 20% wind you would still need to keep about half the gas plants online to dampen out the fluctuations inherent with wind ( reducing by half the potential savings ); the remaing gas plants would be the less efficient gas turbines; most demand for electricity is near the coasts nowhere near the windbelt and for a variety of reasons it would be nearly impossible to construct the spider web of transmission lines that would be required (NIMBY).
The only viable alternative energy source is nuclear. And we need to do a lot more drilling.

Here's my take. Go Nuclear now, meanwhile build a foundation for a combination of Oil/(insert alternative fuel) which we would eventually phase out crude oil as a source and in that act the U.S.A will be back on the top of the world. THE END.:D

That's just what we need. Ugly wind turbines obstructing and ruining every open space. Not to mention chopping up migratory birds.

Nuclear is what we need.

T Boone Pickens is trying to leave a legacy of love. He's a country boy billionaire with a guilty conscience in his decrepit old age.

The answer to the energy problem will require everyone to do what they can, where they can. It isn't enough to sit back and let someone else attempt to fix your problems.

The first step in achieving energy independence is curtailing the incredibly wasteful American culture of energy use. Until that is done the rest is just lip service.

Have you seen how fast those turbines spin? We're not talking blender speeds here so I think the birds have a pretty good chance of dodging the Blades o' Death.

Agree with your Nukeular point though.

Because nuclear reactors are so pretty.

Drill more, Drill now.

Use as much energy as you want and/or can afford...

I heard an NPR report that actually lamented the decline in oil and mogas prices. Their startling revelation was that if energy prices were lower, people would use more energy. The commentator actually longed for the days of higher energy.

Morons. Using more fossil fuel energy means that people are contributing more to aggregate demand, thus, improving the economy.

If the tree-huggers really want to improve the environment, then an economic incentive is needed. I.e., find an energy source that is both more effective and cheaper, and the invisible hand will embrace. Try to 'Pelosi' an unwanted energy policy on the American public, and the invisible hand will reach up and slap America.

Go to pickensplan.com. We can't let up. Life as we know it depends on us acting now!

Sign wind up for permanent federal subsidies too. It's the only way it will survive, as even Pickens himself acknowledges. Glad to see Pelosi was able to get her hands on nearly $100k of the stock in Picken's company (CNLE) the day of its initial offering! I'm sure that doesn't have anything to do with all this though...
