That leaves just one S-3 squadron left, correct? If so, when do they decommission?

I read that the last squadron will park then in December.

Not according to the rumors. Sad to see them go, great jet with a lot of life left in it.

VS-22 is the last squadron. The article didn't quite get it right though, VS-22 had the last Trap ever on the GW on 27MAY and then the last fly-in from a deployment on the 28th. They will continue to fly the Hoov until just before the decomm in Dec.

Last I checked, VS-32 is still flying. Will be for a while (well past Dec).

What are they replacing the S-3 with? Don't tell me...the Super Hornet?

The ghost of Robert McNamara is alive and dangerous. TC

I'm starting to feel old. My old base closed (NAS Cecil), my carrier is on the bottom of the ocean (USS America) and now the S-3 is going away, I was in VS-32 92-96. At least someone told me they sunk the America can anyone confirm that.

The USS America was used in a live fire test.

Scuttling location

In response to a Freedom of Information Act request from former USS America veterans at CVN78.com, the U.S. Navy released the exact location where USS America was sunk. The location is 33°09′09″N, 71°39′07″W, around 250 miles (400 km) southeast of Cape Hatteras. The wreck lies in 2,810 fathoms (5139 metres or 16,860 feet)

Woop woop

Without divulging anything OPSEC, they have quite a bit more work on the books.

Yea the Ruskies are really interested in when the grave threat of the War Hoover will be finally gone!

I was refering more along the lines of times/locations of movements, dets, etc. Std deployment stuff.

I know, I was just kidding. The Viking was actually a great airplane to fly.
