Well, I hope everyone involved enjoys the new equipment.
Since I'm not in the military, my interest in this whole process is what will happen to the US Armys C-23B/C Sherpas when the C-27J comes online. If they are ever auctioned to civilian operators I want to convince my company buy a couple. We currently operate 2 Shorts 360-300s so we could easily add the Sherpa's to the certificate. For the flying we do C-23B/C would be a comparable or better airplane than the 360-300, but the C-23A just doesn't have the useful load we need.

Like any pilot I just want to get more airplanes on the property. Any info would be useful.

Thanks

I would imagine that the USFS would get first dibs on the C-23's, just like last time. Doesn't ACC have (or had) a couple of them?

USFS/BLM are probably going to gradually get rid of their Sherpas.

I think alot of those Sherpas currently in Iraq, might never end up leaving there.

Any delivery schedule yet? Who's getting them?

ACC had some C-23A's. One went to Mcneeley and two went Acrtic Circle Air. A couple more are sitting on a ramp in MKE without engines. They are low time airplanes (10,000 hours), but the C-23A just can't get much done so there hasn't been much of an effort to get them in the air. The C-23A has a MGTOW of 22,900, but I think the good Sherpas, the C-23B/C, have a MGTOW around 26,500 because they are converted Shorts 360-200's.

I always thought the USFS kept pretty busy with their Sherpas. At any FBO I go to west of Kansas the fuel guys seem to know how to fuel a Shorts because the USFS had been there recently in a Sherpa.

I read somewhere that the Army Guard/Reserve unit at Dobbins will get the first aircraft.

Most BRAC'd units claim to be getting them also. The Air Force put out a "road map" for C27J bed downs recently. It can probably be found on google.

I thought the BDL guys got the Lears..

For now, I think that was more of a "place holder" type flying mission until they got something else......Or just way of delaying the inevitable!

When did the Air Force and ANG release the final bed down plan for the C27J? Last I saw it was all preliminary info and rumors.

The more BRAC'd ANG unit that get manned aircraft the better.

I saw on baseops.net that both the Bradley, and Battle Creek unit were advertising for UPT slots and they said it was initially for the C-21 with the C-27J coming online sometime in the future. Don't really know if they have solid delivery schedules yet.

Hopefully BRAC'd Herc units will get the C27J first. They have the Tac airlift experience.

Best I can tell is that every BRAC'd unit claims to be getting C27J's.

No delivery schedule for the C-27 yet. We'll happily fly the learjet at BC for as long as we can. BRAC couldn't have done us a better favor.

I worked for the BDL guard on the C12 and was really disapointed to see them lose their beloved A10s it would be really great to see them get another plane to put them back In business again I miss those guys and seeing 3 C21s sit on the ramp is just not the same !! Go flying Yankees
