Delta Inaugurates Nine International Flights in 10 Days
Monday June 2, 11:00 am ET
Milestone week in airline's global expansion includes new destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean Six additional New York departures strengthen Delta's position at JFK
ATLANTA,

June 2, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL - News) will inaugurate nine international flights in the next 10 days, marking a significant step in its unprecedented global expansion. Delta has added more than 100 international markets to its network since 2005 as part of its transformation into a premier global airline.

* Delta today will launch the first-ever nonstop trans-Atlantic service from Salt Lake City with daily flights to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, as part of its recently implemented joint venture agreement with Air France. *

Delta will strengthen its presence at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with six new flights: nonstop to Georgetown, Guyana (June 1); direct to Cape Town, South Africa via Dakar, Senegal (June 3); nonstop to Cairo, Egypt (June 4); nonstop to Malaga, Spain (June 4); nonstop to Amman, Jordan (June 5), and nonstop to Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda (June 12). * Delta will further expand its trans-Atlantic network from its largest hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with nonstop service to Stockholm, Sweden (June 3). * In cooperation with joint-venture partner Air France, Delta has added a fourth daily flight between its Atlanta hub and Air France's Paris hub (June 1).

June's nine international flight inaugurals are part of Delta's industry-leading global expansion which this year alone includes nonstop service between Atlanta and Shanghai (March 30); New York-JFK and Tel Aviv (March 10); Atlanta, New York-JFK and Los Angeles* and London-Heathrow (March 29); and recently announced service between Atlanta and Kuwait City, effective Nov. 7**.

Also, on July 17 Delta will become the first U.S. airline to serve three cities in France when it begins nonstop service between Lyon and New York-JFK.

"Despite record-high fuel prices, the international marketplace remains strong for Delta,'' said Glen Hauenstein, executive vice president - Network and Revenue Management. ``We're already the No. 1 U.S. carrier to Europe,
Africa and the Middle East. Delta is an undisputed global leader with an unmatched domestic network and the best positioned hubs. With that, we are able to offer the best travel options for international passengers.''

Delta Air Lines operates service to more worldwide destinations than any airline with Delta and Delta Connection flights to 324 destinations in 62 countries. Delta has added more international capacity than any major U.S. airline during the last two years and is the leader across the Atlantic with flights to 43 trans-Atlantic markets. To Latin America and the Caribbean, Delta offers 600 weekly flights to 62 destinations. Delta's marketing alliances also allow customers to earn and redeem SkyMiles on more than 16,000 flights offered by SkyTeam and other partners. Delta is a founding member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance that provides customers with extensive worldwide destinations, flights and services. Including its SkyTeam and worldwide codeshare partners, Delta offers flights to 474 worldwide destinations in 104 countries. Customers can check in for flights, print boarding passes and check flight status at delta.com.

Intl growth..it's where it's at!!!...NWA started SEA-LHR...unfortunately domestic growth will dwindle amongst both airlines and that will offset some of the INTl growth....

Meanwhile, CAL is dead in the water on intl. growth until we can figure out how to double the range of our 737s.......... Oh well, at least our 787s will be here soon--oh, wait.

That seems to be the key. We have to find pax that will pay with currency worth MORE than our dollar. If they buy in Euros, then we hold onto them for a few days and they are worth a bit more in Dollars.

As far as domestic growth goes, I, like you, don't see much. I do see more RJs being parked and fewer new domestic pairings. The new planes we are getting this year almost all will go INTL, except a few special missions, like ATL-Vail or LGA-Vail-- on the 737-700--- where those pax don't care about cost.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Reminds me of a quote from Grinstein. He said that hiring Continental's network managers was expensive and he did not know if Delta could afford their cost. Gordon (who had recently left Continental) told him "you can't afford not to."

Delta has a good team on board that is actively managing the airline instead of waiting, hoping and shrinking.

In other News:

The Hole in the Ozone Layer and General Lee's Head Get Bigger

They should redo the headline to say: "Delta to taxi off taxiways on nine new routes." Or, perhaps, "Delta to lose $6,700,000,000 per quarter on nine new routes."

Yeah, but some of that domestic crap is just money-loosing city pairs. Good riddance to that stuff. Easier to drive anyway

And yet once again I will say it...."DORK"

You keep posting this anti-DAL crap. I bet if the company made 100 billion a year, gave the pilots a 100% raise, etc. you would still find fault. Face it you love that company and you are still mad that you got shot down when you botched up the application. I guess you charming personality came through - even on paper.

Get over you love the the "big D" and get a life - if not please try and post something that is more than just the yellow acidic stool that keeps drooling from your pie hole.

I'm just saying that I'd rather do 6 legs with 20 min turns and a LBB overnight vs. working for a company that loses $6.7 Billion a quarter, pays you a sh!tty salary, and furloughs pilots. Not to mention, having to constantly tell people that you aren't gay after they see you in the double breasted smoking jacket.

Easier to drive? Probably just as expensive thanks to $4 a gallon gas. That is the squeeze. After 9-11 people could afford to just drive. Now, it is just as expensive.

Thanks man! I'll PM you the details. I really appreciate this! I got a lot of other ins, so I'm pretty much a sure thing! Besides, Delta loves the known quantity of a military pilot.
