Any speculation why there is a new bid for 8 RJ CAs. Why would we they need more CAs when ATR reductions are coming and flying slows down in Fall? Maybe more airplanes/flying?

Nah people still leaving for other airlines, VA and others...just filling in for these guys I would imagine. 8 isn't that many and I know of at least 2 CR2 Captains leaving within the month. As much as I want growth I don't think 8 new CA's is any sign of that.

This is unexpected...

8 new awards do not make me think that there is anything new in the way of equipment coming our way, however.

But for crying out loud, we still have over 130 reserve Captains! That is an incredible amount. I guess this is the staffing level SH and CT feel is necessary.

But, yes, they probably have 8 resignations for May/June, so they are topping off the tank.

8 CAs doesn't seem like much, but we are losing 12 aircraft by the end of this year and the effective date for these CAs is when our block hours usually decrease. There are over 50 ATR CAs that will be transitioning late summer, early fall. I'm not reading too much into this but you never know.

Huh? What is your math on that one? That maybe where the lines stop, but with conversion lines there are a LOT less actually one RSV at any time.

Exactly, not to mention vacations, RGT, Check rides, days off, sick calls, personal leaves for funerals, etc...

With a few exceptions, every reserve is getting about 40hrs/month of flying at least.

50ish FOs, too. Somebody has to bring the porn.

I can't believe pilots are complaining about not getting work. Enjoy the time off, relax. Summer is right around the corner, and its never fun on reserve.

yeah June is going to be a Goat-Rope. On the 200 Captain side there I think 30ish more lines for June compared to May and maybe 5 more captains on the list. My gorilla math says there will be 25 less reserve pilots to cover open time on a schedule that has 30 more lines than May. The summer will be fun.

Well when your not making much money the per diem checks really help out. If I'm only getting 6 hours a month you can imagine what my check is like. Also this day and age its nice to have more flight time on your resume.

6 hours of CRJ time is still better than 30 hours of C172 flight instruction time.

However, 75 hours min is not much more pay than an FO on 90 hours line.

Gotta pay the bills!
