Fedex later or netjets now?

currently:
4000TT, 75 pic turbine, 121 regional captain, baby #1 on the way

What are your long term goals. If FedEx has been your goal since you could walk, and your other half is supportive, hold out. If you don't care, then apply at NetJets. Depending on where you work now, either one could be a sizeable pay cut for the first year or two. If your wife is going to stay home for any amount of time this could be a big consideration. According to what I hear, both are good places to work. There are also the usual factors of commuting, what sort of schedule you like, and so on.

With only 75 turbine PIC, I would think that you have a ways to go to be competetive at FedEx. By the time the window opens again, I would think there would be a ton of applicants with much higher time. How long are you willing to wait? Good luck to you in your decision and hope it works out.

Have you already had an interview with NetJets? For those just now applying it is taking anywhere from 3 to 11 months (the 11 seems more the norm right now). I enjoy NetJets, but if your goal is FedEx it could take up to 5 years to upgrade NetJets which wouldn't help you get to FedEx. Of course our pay might get much better for a FO if IBB passes.

Something else to consider, as of right now we don't have monthly deductions for medical... You only pay a co-pay when you go to a doctor. My brother just had a kid and it only cost him around $300.

300 dollars? My last kid cost me almost 2000 dollars. The company pays 80% of the hospital bill which is why it is so high. Does netjets pay 100% of the hospital bill? If so then that is a good deal. Those hospital bills take a couple of months to actually reach you so it seems like it never ends. It is nice to see a company that pays your premiums. They should all be like that and cover it.

You are considering leaving a 121 regional CA job with only 75 PIC??? Which carrier are you with? That's like going bungee jumping with no life insurance...

My two cents: stay where you are, build some PIC time so you are competetive later on for FDX (or wherever) - see if you can get an LCA letter to boost pay or do some ground instruction if it pays well.

That will keep your finances a little more stable, the wife on the same insurance plan through the birth, and keeps you from going through a 6 week+ training period ~ and you don't have to worry about missing the birth or facing a pay cut that first year. Also a point to consider: you will not qualify for FMLA (family leave) under Fed. regulations if you move to another carrier now (I believe you have to be employed there for a year), so if the company gets testy, they could make it difficult for you to be there for your wife when you need/want to be. Bear in mind, the regionals have put themselves into a position where they do not have enough pilots trained and ready to cover the increasing needs projected in the near future due to expansion and attrition. Just my opinion.

Congrats on the baby!

I'm not sure exactly what he pays for, but it was something like $150 co pay for his wife and $150 co pay for the baby. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what he said.

At NetJets you are insured the day you start and I'm taking medical leave for an operation and I haven't reached my one year anniversary.

If you really want to go to FedEx, stay at your current
carrier and build your PIC turbine time. In 2-3 years (probably less) you will have competitive times. If you go to NetJets, assuming the upgrade time is 5 years, you probably won't hit the PIC turbine requirement for another 8 years. Thats a lot of seniority numbers that will be ahead of you. If it's all about quality of life and you only "would like to work for FedEx someday," then maybe go to NetJets and enjoy time with your family. They're only young for a short time. Good luck

Eagle?

You realize you need 3 internal recs at Fedex (preferably from people you've flown with.) Plus one of them has to "sponsor" you at a meet and greet.

Those are hard minimums.

I would worry more about the hear-and-now vs. one of your career dreams. Your family needs you.

Having said that, what's the insurance like between the two. I know NetJets is awsome, but will they cover your wife and unborn now? What I mean is that you need to keep them covered. If you can get coverage at NJ take it. Otherwise, see if you can delay your class date a bit until your expanding family is covered.

With your low PIC Turbine, if you leave, you'll be a long, long way until you can move to FX.

Insurance has nothing to do with FMLA - but if they cover you for family leave immediately, then good for you - take advantage of it. The Federal laws will not, however, back it up.

We just had a baby last year, and my sig. other was lucky to get any time at all. Because he had only been employed there for a short time, he was unable to use the FMLA.

Since when does FedEx offer you a class for "later"

sounds like this discussion is a waste of hot air...you only have once choice NOW, and it ain't FedEx.

I thought the REC's had to be people you have flown with operationally, didn't think "preferably" was an option. Also, I thought that the sponsor DOESN'T have to actually flown with you, just vouch for you at the meet and greet.

So if you haven't flown with the sponsor, you need the three recs AND the sponsor. If you HAVE flown with the sponsor, you can use him as one of the three recs.

Is that not the case?
