Anyone got a good grasp on what majors are hiring and the QOL at those airlines?

I am looking into the airlines for stability (sad isn't it) after corporate owners realize they can't afford to own jets...

Nick, if your employer sold the plane and you found yourself unemployed, would you go fly that CJ for 20-25k despite your experience simply because you're starting at another employer?

If the answer is yes, you'll fit the 121 mold.

If the answer is no, stick with corporate.

I heard second hand(I'm not working there) that all hiring ceased. The last time that happened was right before the last merger. Helllloooooo United?

I'd wait tables before I flew a business jet for 20-25K! At least then i'd have hot co-workers!

Well, in the airline world, you'll start flying a large jet for 25k. After some time, you'll make good money as an FO even. Now say you were flying a 737NG for 100k as an FO now that you've been there a while and your airline went under, despite your experience, you'd fly that same 737NG as a newhire at another airline for 25k or whatever the probationary first year pay is.

The one and ONLY good thing about the airlines can be schedule and hard days off, and you can find that at any fractional.

Stay away from 121 man! Bad news....

They're still running classes and still accepting applications. I don't know if they are still interviewing, I had heard they had stopped for a while because the pool was full.

I just heard that Jonathan Turley has agreed to represent some CAL pilots who turned 60+ just before the age 65 ruling. His goal is to have those pilots reinstated if they so choose. I would not take this challenge lightly simply because of the credentials and experince of this particular attorney.
Please....don't shoot the messenger, as I'm just repeating what heard yesterday from a couple of USAir pilots.

I came from corporate, with no airline experience, and would not do it again.

It takes years to get back the quality of life of corporate flying, if it ever comes.

Aviation seems to me to be a volitale industry from all directions. If you can find a solid corporate job, keep it. If it isn't very secure, start a side business and use your flying jobs as supplemental income.

A captain told me once that you don't work for Delta/American/Southwest/etc.., you work for your family; the prior is just your employer.
