If the merger goes through it is going to be way more than a year, if at all. Furloughs are likely. If the Delta guys get there way, it's going to get real ugly. I invision the Republic deal x 10 on my "this sucks" scale. No good way about it.

Try not to freak out about being lost in the deep end, I still think DAL has plans for growth internationally that will more that suffice for the job losses created by parking all the DC9's, some 757's, most all the 747's, and a few 88's...Heard large Aircraft order will be announced shortly after merger announcement on Monday that will include a large number of 777's and supposedly A340's. I would bet you will be in a DAL cockpit long before you have to reapply, Try to keep the faith that this is a good thing DALPA is working on! Our MEC is not trying to screw over yours, just trying to preserve some of what was good in the first offer so it can be part of the future! Delta pilots will not strive to screw over their soon to be DAL crew mates, but they will strive to maintain any improvements that can be made regardless of either MEC's hang-ups.

C'mon man....

If we get our way??? Lessee, you are parking 60+ DC-9's and the 747's screaming for a DOH setup and we are a bigger group asking for a fair seniority list. How is that so unfair??

OK, I exagerated a bit. Still I find it hard to believe that NWA and DAL can merge amicably. Even if they do, there will still be furloughs. Anyone that thinks this isn't going to get nasty is either insane or works at a LCC. Sorry, I didn't mean to be redundant.

Good luck folks.

I think they'd try to buy off some senior FA's as opposed to furloughs. Delta's trying hard to change the FA image

Old, bitchy, bitter and "cankle" equiped

That would be a lot more funny if it weren't so true.

Poor old gal. Time to go out to pasture.

Good luck folks. Hope it all works out.

You guys are dreaming if you think that furloughs will not come out of the deal. What is the point in merging if you do not consolidate and restructrue. I think what is happening to the industry is what needed to happen years ago, but the unfortunate thing is that it really turns peoples lives upside down. Best of luck to those out or going to be out on the street.

So, now I have to fill out that huge application AND go through the Delta astronaut physical? Seriously, will the new company have an all new application or will they use the NWA and Delta forms?

The last thing on anybodys mind is what application form is going to be used.

I agree with everybody who brought it up.....1000+ furloughs when this deal goes down and they will begin after the Justice department rules on it AND after November's election.

Meanwhile over at ALPA...
"Oh, But wait junior guys.....we got you a chair at our new and improved "D" scale wage sham operation called Compass!!.....be thankful you have a job!" (Thumbs up)

didn't previous article say that the delta cvg hub would close. This was back when the merger specultaion was going on a few month back on where HQ would be located and etc.

I can say this, look at the history. This was a secret business plan for the last few years, I am sure they were planning on doing this in bankruptcy, but it got shelved when they figured it was not going to work. Now they are forced to go through with it....the fund managers are making them. I would say this will turn out better for Delta guys than the NWA ones. MY only hopes is that it gets shot down by Oberstar and the anti-merger politicians. I know this might be the time to go steal a hobby farm, build a wall and wait for even worse to happen. Why do I say this? Because I just said our only hope is on a politician to save us........God help us all.....wait....never mind

Glad to see some things never change.

In house fighting and conspiracy theorists...yeah, good times.

The difference here is the consolidating and resturcturing is to INCREASE international flights. I highly doubt they will park any of the widebodies and cut international flights. The slowing growth and CH 7's of the LCC's is reducing domestic capacity. Both NWA and DAL have already announced domestic capacity cuts and I expect to see some more RJ cuts. The domestic overlap is very small between NWA and DAL so I doubt we will see more than an additional 5% domestic reduction at the mainline level. There will be lots of 50-seaters gone. With the 787's and 777's already ordered and a potential larger order coming, there is no possible way that the combined airline will furlough 1000 pilots. My guess is no hiring until spring 09, then back to 100 per month to staff the international growth.

Thats my prediction also. Lets hope we are right

No, it said Anderson stated he would keep CVG open, after talking to local and State politicians who hinted they would try to block the whole deal otherwise. Things have likely changed in the economic formula now, but the local politicians will still fight to keep jobs in their area.

And, I don't see 1000 furloughs coming. I hope there are zero, and I think a lot depends on how fast the DC9s go away. If they stick around for awhile, maybe very few furloughs.

Bye Bye--General Lee
