ATA AIRLINES DISCONTINUES ALL OPERATIONS

After filing for Chapter 11 on April 2, 2008 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Indianapolis, IN, ATA Airlines has discontinued all operations and cancelled all current and future flights. Following the loss of a key contract for our military charter business, it became impossible for ATA to continue operations. Unfortunately, we were not in a position to provide our customers or others with advance notice.
We apologize for the disruption caused by the sudden shutdown of ATA and regret the impact on passengers, employees, suppliers, and other parties. ATA customers should seek alternative arrangements for current and future travel. A list of other airlines serving ATA’s destinations is available here.
ATA customers who purchased tickets using a credit card should contact their credit card company or travel agency directly for information about how to obtain a refund for unused tickets.
ATA currently is unable to provide refunds to customers who purchased tickets directly from ATA with cash or a check. These customers may be able to obtain a full or partial refund for their unused tickets by submitting a claim in ATA’s Chapter 11 proceedings. Information about submitting a claim will be available at the following website: http://www.bmcgroup.com/ataairlines.
Customers who purchased tickets from Southwest Airlines for flights operated by ATA under the codeshare agreement should contact Southwest Airlines directly at (800) 308-5037.

wow that sucks. Such a great group of pilots. The best part of my career will always be the time I got to spend flying with the L1011 "Gentlemen's Club" at ATA....Good luck guys, my prayers will be with all of you and your families....

ATA Files for Bankruptcy
Thursday April 3, 6:37 am ET ATA Discontinues All Flights, Files for Bankruptcy

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- ATA Airlines discontinued all flights and filed for bankruptcy Thursday.
The Indianapolis-based airline said in a statement on its Web site that it became impossible to continue operations after losing a key contract for its military charter business.
Prior to the shutdown, the airline had approximately 50 flights a day, mostly between Hawaii and four west coast cities -- Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas, said company spokesman Michael Freitag.
In the message, the airline apologized for the disruption and suggested that customers seek alternative travel arrangements.
The company had over 2,200 employees, he said.
"Virtually all of ATA's employees are being notified today that their positions are eliminated," Freitag said.
ATA announced last month that it would leave its hub at Chicago's Midway Airport.

Good luck to everyone at ATA; sorry for your loss.

I never met an ATA employee that I didn't like. First class group, every one of them. I hope all the employees are offered extreme preference at every airline that hires this year.

Hi.

Sorry to hear about ATA. I wanted to go there.

USA Jet is hiring, and we especially need DC-9 guys. Starting pay is $39K/year. If you have the hours, Falcon capt upgrade is about 6 months, and DC-9 capt should come down to about 2 years.

We have two bids out now for DC-9 capt, with only 6 elligible pilots.

If U want a lot of info, PM me.
