Labor Organization at Odds with Southwest Pilot’s Group.
Washington, Apr. 1 2008 /newscape/- Newscape wire
Officials of the AFL-CIO, have drafted a letter rebuking the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA).
At issue was the recent distribution by SWAPA to its membership of union promotional items that were produced in China.
“A bedrock tenet of labor organization is that your own supplies, consumables, and promotional materials, be procured from unionized sources.” Said John Sweeney, President of the AFL-CIO. “The only products more repugnant than non-union products, are Chinese products. We document on a continual basis that Chinese products, especially needleworks products, are the products of child labor, prison labor, or worse.”
“The pilots of SWAPA are some of the highest paid workers in the world. Surely they could afford to buy quality domestic products produced by union workers earning a livable wage.” He added.
Officials of the Southwest Pilot’s group declined to comment.
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a voluntary federation of 56 national and international labor unions.

The AFL-CIO union movement represents 10.5 million members, including 2 million members in Working America, its new community affiliate.http://shopunionmade.org/?q=node/15

Guys overall who cares, but this is why we as a country are in such deep doo doo.
Everyone wants everything cheap, but wants top dollar for their corner of the pie. Not going to happen this way.

I care!! I think we have given away enough of our jobs, dont you think?

Hopefully it was just an oversight that will not be repeated

I appreciate the sentiment here but let's be real..."needlework" jobs are long gone from these shores.

Look them up next to the "typewriter assembly guild"

And why are they and other gone?
Because we want that toy in the happy meal for free, and the only way to do that is to ship that job overseas. NAFTA and global trade at work.
We are becoming a second world society because of our own greed. Kind of sad.
