Tucson becomes 'unprofitable' for JetBlue
JetBlue will discontinue service to Tucson after May 12. The airline says rising fuel costs and increased competition forced the decision. JetBlue currently offers one daily round-trip flight between Tucson and New York JFK. "Gas prices hit long-haul flights harder than other routes," JetBlue spokesman Sebastian White tells the Arizona Daily Star. "Frankly, the price of oil right now is just too steep to sustain a route like that."
JetBlue first started flying to Tucson in September 2006. "We've been in the market for 18 months and have not seen the kind of maturation a route requires to be profitable," White tells Inside Tucson Business. "The fuel environment combined with competition and a lack of market growth all played a contributing role in the closure of Tucson service. When we launched service to Tucson, oil was $66 per barrel. Now it trades in excess of $100."Posted at 12:16 PM/ET, Mar 31, 2008 .

Most of our markets work just fine. This one wasnt. At least mgnt recognized it and pulled it instead of letting it bleed money. I have not been there with us but those that have said it was really a hit and miss market.

Maybe...just maybe...if JB had served TUS with something besides a red-eye, the traffic might have been a bit stronger? Personally, I have a strong allergic reaction to red-eyes, both as a crewmember and a passenger. And I know I'm not the only one...

Our long stay in LAS is the Loews as well. Great place from what I have heard but out of the way a bit. I have been told the drinks and golf are top notch though.

Hey Longhorn, what gives with removing my "jet blue sucks" a while back? I was first on the scene to get it in, with a take that bitches!!! You know that was funny, why pull it? Someone else would have said it, and meant it. Mine was funny at least.

It was removed for spelling. Next time remember, its: Mike-Echo-Sierra-Alpha sucks. :D

I dont think I removed it. I dont touch anything JetBlue related since I work here and many will think I am being biased so it must have been another mod....

The Loews in Vegas was a nice place...but a crappy layover. The Sunset Station in Henderson was great...but someone took it upon themselves to change the hotel with zero input from the crews that had to stay there. I quit bidding Vegas soon after they changed hotels.

I like the Lowes better any day. Either way you had to get a ride to the strip, and the "casino" in the Sunset was an old lady video slot machine joke. If you absolutely just have to gamble, then its more convienient, but for everything else, the Lowes is a much nicer stay.
