FAA Steps Up Airline Inspections After Southwest's Safety Lapses

Federal aviation regulators took the unusual step of ordering special maintenance checks at every U.S. airline, a sign the government is concerned that safety lapses disclosed at Southwest Airlines Co. may be the tip of a broader problem.
The Federal Aviation Administration's far-reaching review of maintenance compliance also comes after preliminary spot checks at several other airlines recently uncovered some compliance paperwork that was questionable or difficult to quickly verify, one person familiar with the matter said. In addition, many airlines launched self-audits of the same compliance areas. It isn't clear whether FAA inspectors found significant safety threats, and government

I cant wait to see how every one else does, especially those that had a laugh at our expense.

Yeah, the FAA gets all over MY a$$ because they were on the take at SWA. They'll be busting our FA's because they've got a page missing in their manuals while they "missed" the SWA FA's not finishing their demo until the gear was in the well, etc.

Can we not tell the pogues in the FAA that the other airlines aren't the problem in this case?

Typical Gov't. move. And Joe Sixpack is demanding the Government take over healthcare. TC

Guess what pal we/YOU are all in for a little surpise. You too have been dealing with incompetent Feds and will too pay the price for it. To this day the 300s we got from the almighty AA are still the most ragged out a/c our fleet. BTW the only time you would see SW F/As finishing demos in the air would be the O2 portion to be completed PRIOR to reaching 25,000 which is what IS necessary. Unlike yourselves trying to milk the clock on the ground, we have an airline to run.

Interesting comment about missed demos. Care to share specifics...or is this another rumor?

Regards,

What is funny about that is the FAA does not have enough inspectors to do the job to begin with much less step up anything.

First it's Jetblue holding people captive, then SWA flying around with cracked planes....what's next, Airtran expanding at a 30% clip instead of the usual 20% to make even more overcapacity?

LCC's cutting corners and thier irrational pracitices only hurt all of us.
