After the news from DAL the past two days, I keep thinking NWA has been very quiet. Where's their MEC letter? Where's Steenland's cost reduction plan?

It is obvious, that in a seniority cost based business, that junior employees are less expensive, i.e; more profitable. That's why DAL just offered early outs to a mindboggling 30,000 employees. Yes, I know they're only hoping for 2,000, but don't you think if they could replace more with cheap new hires, they would?

So, with Steenland preaching shrinkage, and belt tightening, what are the chances of NWA offering early outs to their pilots to save money in the long run?

Also, (you can probably see where I'm going with this), wouldn't such a move pave the way for a merger? Massive early retirements? Anyone from NWA?

You make a very good point.

It should be noted Steenland is by no means considered a dynamic, or even competent CEO.

Once again, NWA is getting left behind.

They are the red-tailed stepchildren of the industry.

You have proven once again you're a moron.

To the original poster, NWA may come out and offer early outs, it has yet to be seen. However NWA does run a leaner ship. They also already planned on some reductions by reducing the DC9s down to 68 by the end of the year. I would expect any further announcements from NWA mgmts very soon. This could very well be the behind the scenes cut backs to begin a merger process. Who knows?

bro, after being on the property for what, 30 days? I wouldn't worry too much about an early retirement yet if I was you.

I admire your loyalty but scoff at your reasoning.

Longer but thanks for paying attention. Nice attempt on a flame though.

Caustic

You are completely caustic. Not even worth it for the entertainment/car wreck value (like Gen Lee) any more. I've finally grown weary. Have fun with Dave in the ignore list. I'm sure you will glee at the thought of finally pi$$ing off someone enough to make a very short ignore list so...enjoy.

You need to remember that the early out packages offered at DAL do not include the pilots. I believe that DAL has been increasing the office and admin staff since exiting bk (Richard even addressed this issue last year in a town hall meeting) at it appears has gotten a little out of control. I am sure that the admin positions are filled just as they are at most other companies and therefore they are not based on seniority.

My guess, there really insn't much of an incentive to offer an early out program to the pilots. Personally, I don't think they would be able to offer enough money to buy the older guys/gals out. Just my opinion though. However, I would sure like to see it happen.
