conversation between my FO and I:

Me: "so what you do prior to getting hired here"?
FO: "I was at the academy"
Me: "Really, that is cool... what is life like at the naval academy?"
FO: "Oh, I went to Delta Connection Academy"

Anyway, this guy proceeded to tell me how Delta is going to have preferential hiring for people who are from "the academy".

What kind of friggin cool-aid do they feed these people down there? I mean jesus christ these guys come out never having flown outside of the state of FL, never having done any real flying. Give me a freight dog or part 135 ANY DAY over the guys coming out of the CFI factories these days. A few years ago, at least you had to get REAL flying experience before getting hired at a regional.

These guys get to the regionals, learn how to fly for about a year or two... then upgrade and become the most anal captains out there.

Yep... When I was a kid, "The Academy" meant "Air Force Academy".

I guess times, (and standards) have changed.

It is pretty bad there. I was there in 2000 when the hiring was nuts and people were still running their mouths. However, for those who applied themselves there was good flight discipline.

BTW, I did a X-C to Macon, Georgia for my Commercial Single.

Did this conversation take place on your virtual flight deck too?

...obviously flame. Look at his profile and username.... sheesh.

You mean like this one?

When this happens, I see which aviation academy the other pilot went to, and what his grades were like. If they are better then mine (never happens), I give up the seat.

It's nothing personal.

Holy ********************. This must happen often because I had a comair jumpseater say this. My fo thought he knew her from the Delta Connection school and asked her where she went to school. The said "the academy" and I was impressed and asked her "Naval or Airforce?" No, the Delta Academy. I had to hold the laughter back until she left the cockpit.
