Delta Air Lines Inc. Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson told the airline's board that he will waive millions of dollars in compensation to which he would be entitled in the event of a merger.
The move is the latest signal of the seriousness of the airline's effort to find a merger partner, most likely Northwest Airlines Corp. or United Airlines parent UAL Corp. According to people familiar with ...

That's all I have since I don't subscribe to WSJ.

Bye Bye--General Lee

From the CNBC website. You're welcome GL.;)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc <DAL.N> Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson has told the airline's board he will waive compensation in the event of a merger.
A company spokesman said in a statement on Wednesday Anderson will "waive any accelerated compensation that he would otherwise be entitled to in the event of a merger."
"The personnel and compensation committee of Delta's board of director has accepted his offer."
News of Anderson's offer to the board was first reported in the Wall Street Journal which said he would have been entitled to "millions of dollars" after a merger.
Delta has been in discussions with Northwest Airlines Corp <NWA.N> according to people briefed on the situation who told Reuters a deal to combine the two airlines could be announced within weeks.
On Tuesday, industry sources told Reuters talks between pilots at Northwest and Delta to reach an equity and seniority agreement ahead of any merger bid were said to be moving slowly.
Anderson took over as chief executive of Delta on September 1 2007. Though he joined from UnitedHealth Group Inc <UNH.N> he had previously been chief executive of Northwest.

Rats

I don't think any of us expect the same gesture from Steenland, that greedy bastard.
Steenland is probably getting the compensation instead of Anderson. Hopefully that will be his price for just going away.

You mean the same Steenland, that wouldn't even fly his own family on his own airline?? Maybe now he can fly on DL:)

We had Steenland on a flight from IAH to SEA a few weeks ago. He was traveling from somewhere in Florida up to Seattle for something. Anyway, he had plenty of drinks and made friends with our lovely flight attendants(all of whom were in their 40's but I would find out later that night that they could drink me under the table). He made all these positive comments about our airline and service(was seated in Business First on the 757-200 on a domestic trip so he had the unusual pleasure of one of these seats domestically). We had a Fed on the jumpseat so he couldn't come up but he told the FA's he wanted to visit with us as well. The whole thing sounded a bit Bizare if you ask me. The FA's really seemed to like him and said he was dressed in jeans and just a nice guy.

Does anyone else see this as more than just a good gesture...

"Hey look, I'm not asking for a pay raise and neither should you!"

Short-term memory.....

WOW!
People have an extremely short-term memory these days! Steenland is the same guy who screwed all those mechanics out of jobs. His shining moment in the sun was when he sent out that great memo after everyone took massive pay cuts encouraging employees to go through their neighbors' trash!

NWA is absolutely the worst airline in the history of aviation-mostly due to Steeland......

Just Damn.....

Dramatic much?? I left ASA for NWA and can say without a doubt that there is absolutely no comparison. Life is much better here. You might want to look around next time you go to work and rethink your ideas on who is the "worst airline in the history of aviation"

Sooo, is NWA still hiring? Accepting resume's? Can you walk my stuff in?

Most of my friends (regional background) that recently goes to NWA doesn't know much about what this CEO has done to the redtail family.

I don't think you need to look too far to see how almost every labor group (pilot, FA, mechanics, gate agents to name a few) had sacrificed, or in the case of the mechanics and gate agents, lost most of the jobs, so that NWA would survive BK.

I'm glad NWA is hiring more regional guys, so that they will start a new generation over there, and hopefully in the future, they will unite the somewhat fragmented pilot group (red, blue book) anyone??

Rants over.

I think it was PT barnum that said that. But it has been quoted as both.
