Yes, it has two HSI's. Best flying job I ever had as a civilian. And the guys flying them wear metal wings, not plastic. I miss the real flying, the challenges, going into the Missoula's etc.. and we could carry all the hunting dogs, ski's or cargo we wanted unlike the new baby jets. One of the last few real pilot jobs left. With seniority or category pay I would go back in a minute.....

I wear metal wings in our 88, the fms is great too...so no need for a vector victor....:) One possible outcome for a NWA/DAL merger is that it would enable the fleets to park the 9's altogether with a very easy transition to the MD90's, which are on the market now and WAAAYYY cheaper than the barbie jets from Brazil and would provide medium capacity lift for years to come at a fraction of the cost. Both NWA and DAL are already up to speed on the 9 series and it could be a seemless transition....once we get the maintenance guys to get all the duck sauce removed, some vents and fire suppression installed...minor details given the market price for the airframes (WITH engines)....

the MD90's on the market (Saudi) look like 717 cockpits correct? with 25 717's perhaps joining NWA fleet, perhaps Delta will go back to what McD intended the MD90 to be (an all glass airplane) if they merge with NWA.

DC9s are:

Bought and paid for...that is awesome.

New interiors...that is awesome.

Most reliable AC in NWAs fleet...that is awesome.

Many more years of service life....that is awesome.

New hires can bid out of them in less than 6 mos....priceless.

And they burn gas like some setting a match to a fuel farm.......

Pilots what we need to support........increase in gas tax. With gas costing about 4 dollars a gallon people will actually buy sensible cars and therefore we will have less demand for gas and the prices will plummet!!!!!! And since gas tax to the airlines is minimal jet fuel will be under 2 dollars again. To all my republican pilot buddies---Gore is good.

The MD-90 cockpit is closer to the MD-88 cockpit. The start switches look like what is on the DC-10 and the electrical has been simplified...other than that its very similar to the 88...which is an updated 9.

You're right that the Saudi -90s have basically a 717 cockpit. Delta is looking at 9 China Eastern MD-90s which have pretty much the same cockpit layout as DL's 16 existing aircraft.

I love how you fricking Widget heads threaten everybody. You're going to eliminate the RJs and take our jobs. You're going to eliminate the DC-9s and take their jobs. By the way you guys talk, you'd think you're Mesa. Or Kungpeng. Or Ryan Air.

that is Delta's MD90 cockpit, not what McD had in mind.

If the 9's go away in a DAL/NWA merger it is not going to be good news for junior DAL pilots either. The 88 is threatened (since you like that word) by the same market forces that put the DC-9 in peril. Fuel is only part of the equation. The other part is that the airplanes have very low ownership costs and cost little to park during a down turn.

The 88 may get new seats that raise the capacity of te jet like the 737's. Probably get 148 to 150. The -90's have a fuselage plug and could hold more. These are aircraft with substantially more capacity and lower ASM costs than the earlier 9's.

A lot depends on fuel, but gas isn't the only factor.

Dude you are a complete tool and everytime you open your pie hole you substantiate the title. I didn't say we "widget heads" were going to eliminate the 9's and "take" their jobs...rather I said that the 9's could be parked and replaced with larger and more efficient md90's that BOTH fleets would benefit from. I didn't say ANYTHING about DAL taking NWA jobs, quite the contrary. As far as eliminating RJ's I'm all for it, there's way too many of them. As far as in doing so we emiminate "your" jobs.....they were not yours to begin with. You seem to think that DAL exists to provide ASA a livelihood, again proving how much of a tool you really are if you honestly believe that. I am done waisting time debating this with you, you are now on my ignore list.

When i read this post the first thing that popped into my head was that "Saturday Night Live" skit where that obnoxious chick always has to "one up" everyone.
