I have a class date in a couple months and was always wondering why it seems that for any given major, the new hires are walking around with new overnight bags and flight cases? I will fully admit this may be a stupid question. But given the economics of a much lower first year wage, the lingering recession, and my overall cheapness, I was hoping to avoid the purchase of new shiny luggage. My current luggage is scuffed up, but functional. Is there a pride issue with having all new bags and/or do majors ask new hires to have fresh luggage?

I think some airlines consider crew baggage as part of the uniform. I'm sure they'll let you know what the policy is during indoc. On the bright side... its tax deductable!

Do airline pilots make enough now to be taxed?:D

If you're coming to WN they don't give a crap. It's your luggage. I've had the same flight bag for 10 years and the same suitcase for 8 years.

Besides they won't notice it's banged up if you have a big "FOCK YOU" sticker on your flight case. ;)
