I guess everything is on the table when these guys smell the money.

"United also would consider withdrawing from the Star Alliance, the global marketing consortium it co-founded, if needed to close a deal. "You can assume that absolutely everything goes into the mix of consideration," Tilton said."

I'd say I'd be willing to leave STAR too if I wanted Lufthansa or other alliance partners to throw a little money by partially funding a merger in order to insure that I stayed in.

Hehe, sounds like someone is getting a little desperate.

Reminds me of the high school prom. All the wallflower chicks were trying to get me to take them...they'd offer to pay, free tux, use their parents car...yadda yadda...just reeked of desparation...

Oh wait...it was me that was desparate. Er, nevermind...

JMHO, but UAL is still a very credible dance partner for DAL if things don't work out with NWA.

If this is a dance, I think UAL is trying to cut in.

Actually, it's "shafted" which is exactly what the employees will be should this marriage made in hell take place.

The good news - the executives will be handsomely rewarded.

I couldn't agree more. Some management believing fools (we all know who they are) will think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread (like taking pay cuts, BK, and Song were). But what do they care? They are probably far enough from the bottom to not get furloughed.
