Alaska vs Airtran

Depends where I wanted to live and that would be about it. Either you like the SE or NW. HUGE difference in climates and people.

Other than that, it is just a job.

Well it may not matter. If consolidation kicks off like everyone is predicting next month, AirTran and Alaska may become the same airline in the future.

2. Continental and United

5. Southwest
6. Jetblue and Frontier

That could happen. However, I would not give much thought to those predictions if it was me deciding between the 2 companies. I think it is a toss up. To me it would come down to where you want to live. Either one of them could be bought or merge.

That is hard to say....same kinda narrowbody, $hitti, self loading cargo flying at both . Pay about the same if you were to compare W2's... Airtran is a little bigger and more nimble. Both negotiating with slimy turdpile managers for a new contract. Probably go with the one that calls first or if they both call go where your money goes the furthest so that you can live in base.....probably a long grind on reserve at Airtran and and even longer grind at Alaska.....I don"t think that we are going to do much hiring at Alaska for a while.( chief pilot in the j/s a month ago said that we had one more class and that would be it for 2008...They expect most guys will not retire at 60 and are going to spend the rest of the year re-formatting the MD guys as the MD party will end in Nov)

Cost of living *MIGHT* be an issue though on 1st year pay.

Of course, you can say that about dang near ANY carrier...

2007 employee survey indicates that 13% of the pilots of Alaska Airlines are satisfied with their job. That's a 8% INCREASE of 2006's 12%. That's public info on their own website. Let's not let historical B.S. fog reality.
