I think they are on to something here. If you cant have good service, you cant expand...imagine that.

China tells airlines to reduce delays and improve service for the Olympics

BEIJING - China ordered domestic airlines to reduce delays and improve service for the Beijing Olympics in August or face penalties.
Airlines that fail to improve performance could be barred from expanding services for two years, among other penalties introduced by aviation regulators at a meeting Friday, the state-run China Daily reported Saturday.
Beijing's overcrowded airport, the world's ninth busiest, will open a new US$4.6 billion terminal and runway this year to cope with the demand.
The Civil Aviation Administration has ordered airlines to stop overbooking flights and keep one or two planes on standby at six key airports in case of delays, China Daily said.
Scrutiny would intensify from July to September, according to Vice Minister Yang Guoqing of the General Administration of Civil Aviation.
China's airlines and airports have struggled with soaring demand for passenger and cargo services amid the country's economic boom. Despite increases in airline fleets and new airports, air traffic corridors have become clogged around major cities and hubs.

Uh, they can do that because they're Communists, duh!!! They tell you to do everything, there also are two channels on TV-- Channel 1 is state run TV, Channel 2 says tune into Channel 1.

Gosh, what a dumb thread!!! Last I saw, we live in a democracy; so our airline service sucks, choose the one that doesn't suck less then, your choice, you're free!!!! Last Chinese airline 737 I saw exploded on TV during deplaning! I'd say if you survived your flight from China, you're doing just fine...

That was a China Airlines plane from Taiwan, not mainland China. Not really the same......not communist.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Well if democracy means your only choice is between sucks and really sucks, maybe democracy isnt as democratic as they tell you to think it is.

Sorry that I think that we should get what we pay for, and business should be held accountable when they dont provide the service that they sell. Its very un-American of me.

D*mn skippy... shame on you.

Just remember, if you don't like the service you get, you can always sue. Don't know how well that would go over in other countries either.

There are a lot of great things about America... our current capitalistic tendencies of large corporations and the tendency for the court systems to "look the other way" isn't one of them.

Incidentally, there's a REASON that all the FOREIGN airlines earn all the international service awards. They're d*mn good at what they do, but you also have to have employees that do their job properly out of personal pride and a work ethic, even the ground service workers.

Sorry Blue, if you'll permit me to put on the Civics professor cap for a moment: We live in a deliberative representative republic, not a democracy. Big difference. Carry on.

Ok, I'll concede on my error-- China Airlines is a Taiwanese carrier. But I will stand by the first portion of my reply. Additionally, this carrier has had numerous safety related issues in the past to include the 737-800 blowing up, a 747 takeoff from a taxiway in Anchorage, a 747 break-up in flight in 2002 killing over 200 and the famous 747 loss of controlled flight off the coast of California in the 80s.
