So for you Q400 drivers out there... what kind of headset are you currently using? ANR or Standard DC.

If ANR; has anyone given the Telex 850 a try?

I've been using a Bose, but a lot of guys use the telex and they seem to get by fine, they just have to turn the volume all the way up and have ear plugs in. Either way, a noise canceling is definitely the way to go.

Just a little bump...

I have a Lightspeed 20XL...the noise reduction is really great. But wearing the headset all day really impacts my fatigue.

I'm looking at the Telex 850. I tried one in flight briefly...REALLY comfortable compared to the 20XL and it really cut out the wind noise. The engine noise is louder than the 20XL...but, maybe a fair trade off for the comfort on long days.

What are you q400 drivers wearing these days? Any more input?

I forgot about that option...I'll have to look into that...

U can also hook up your IPOD to it.
I personally have the aviation bose, but they were a gift to me, if I have to buy a pair, I'll go for this set up of bose with that mic.
You can use them when u ride in the back for those looong commutes as well.

how about ....the Bose comfort 3 with the mic from u fly mike...

The UFlyMike will not work with the QuietComfort 3, only the QuietComfort 2. That's the setup I have, and it's fantastic! Haven't tried it in a Dash, though, so I don't know how well it would work in it.

I just heard from a buddy that the only thing that he doesn't like about the QC2/UFlyMike setup is that if the battery runs out the audio will not work. Is that true?

Yes, that's true. The power light will start flashing at least 5 hours before it actually runs out, so you have plenty of warning to swap it out before the next leg.

I can usually get about a week and a half's worth of flying out of a single AAA battery. I simply put a fresh one in at the start of my 7-day tour, and then I never have to worry about it. I keep a couple in the headset bag.

I use the old Telex Airman 750 and feel comfortable. No problems...no ringing in the ears, and my arse doesn't even feel numb after flying all day.
