Those things, and lowering pilot pay to less than Air Tran's.
Thanks for doing your part!
I believe they also have short term debt of $400M(baloon payment, I think) or so due in 2008. They were planning to refinance at higher rates, but Lufthansa gives them a few more options. S&P still has them at CCC, so it's still quite a bit below junk. Once the future deals with Lufthansa are finalized, this could help their rating quite a bit and make refinancing a little more palitable.Back to JB - it required an equity investment from Lufthansa because it needed to bolster its cash position. Rising fuel and labor costs translate into more cash out than normal - hence the need for a cash infusion. Increased competition from Virgin America and Delta don't help because lower ticket prices also equate to less cash in the bank to pay for higher-cost expenses.

Amen! Oil's pushing $100 today...it's only a matter of time before mgt goes back to the trough...it will be interesting to see who gives. Looks like the boys at UAL and AMR are pretty p.o.'d these days...but the folks at DAL seem to still be slamming the Kool-Aid even after getting the shaft. I imagine when the company comes calling, G.L. (Heavy Set, 737 Pylt, or whatever he's logged in as at the time) will tell us how awsome the cuts are going to be because the company will let them fly more hours for less pay. And they will then proceed to roll over and take it.
