DC9 MEM is not correct. Current list shows junior pilot as a August 01 hire, which means a newbie could expect an award there in a couple of months.

Why the creep?

I thought that they were going to be hiring a bunch and guys were going to leave at 60.

Any reasons for hope that pay, work rules, and morale will improve in the future?

IMO, about 50% will stay past 60. Former Republic pilots do not have the large retirement that the original NW guys do due to the fact that many were "fenced" on the NB's. Hiring was due to retirements, pre age 65 law. The hiring department is waiting to see what will happen. Remember, the airlines generally hire until the furloughs are announced (not saying we are going to furlought)

As far as pay and work rules, it can't get much worse so there is room for some improvement. Can't see anything changing for 4 years or so.

Morale has always sucked, but NWA does not care about that.

12-15 yrs to hold junior reserve captain on the DC-9?? I don't think so. Currently the junior-most CA has a seniority number of around 4200 out of 5400. That is just 1200 numbers to CA. NWA has around 52% people retiring with age 60 rule---even if around half decides to stay--by the time all medical outs are accounted for, at least around 40% will retire in ten years. In the past, movements were very slow at NWA due to minimal retirements (hence all the retirements coming up soon), 9/11 and 6 yrs of no hiring. This business is all about timing---new hires getting on right now could have an entirely different career outlook than someone who was hired at NWA 10-20 yrs ago. I think newbies will see CA upgrades within 5 years. Of course, a meteor can strike MSP HQ tomorrow and screw up all these predictions!!

You might want to use a more current list.

The Bid List for January shows the most junior DC9 FO Blockholder in MEM as a 25XXXX number, which is an August of 01 hire. Not too many guys behind him that were hired before 9/11, so that list isn't long overall.

The most junior reserve guy in MEM is a new hire with a 27xxxx number.

Actually, the last guy bidding is an 97 hire, but above him were 01 hires. He must have just come back from recall or leave. So we were both correct.

Having been a bottom feeder for a long time, I can tell you reserve is a good deal if you live there. But please don't move to Detoilet - it's horrible, and I move up even faster.

As to new hires, we have 9 in the last 2 classes assigned to ANC747SO. The last rather short APA has nothing to do with age 65. Call Stephanie and ask her.

Since they are putting so many people in the SO slot in ANC right now is that expected to continue since most will trade out of it? Or is there a chance it will get staffed for now?
