I've been at F9 for about 3 years... Been thinking about trying to get an interview with JB. I've had enough of Denver and don't want to commute. Pay isn't an issue, quality of life is.

What are your thoughts on that? Good move or Bad move, Hang out at F9 til something happens (possible merger or buyout) ... I just don't see F9 making it. Slug

With 3 years in how close to upgrade are you?

Sluggo... what part of the country do you live in? Quality of life is the only thing to hang onto anymore it seems, and if you can get a job where you can drive to work I believe life changes immensely.

I've been at JetBlue for 2 years now. I truly enjoy the company (Bus FO). But we certainly have our fair share of concern and gripes over here as well. Find as many JetBlue dudes as you can and talk to them in person. Make sure to find at least 2 or 3 bus FO's and 2 or 3 190 FO's to get the full picture for yourself.

Good luck.

Given the current orders... Never. I'm personally not interested in being a capt. I don't need the money, its a quality of life issue.

If you are not interested in being a captain, definitely apply to SWA. You may have to get use to those 30 minute turns but you won't feel the pressure of PIC duties.

IMHO, JB ain't gonna make it either in the long term. The LCC price war and $100 oil will see to that. Better to go to a legacy like Delta or Netjets. Fedex/UPS would also be a good option.

To each their own, I guess, but something about leaving a Denver-based airline to sign on with a NYC-based airline when "quality of life" is the main consideration....just doesn't make any sense to this kid.

JohnsonRod must have been turned down by jetBlue at some point. By the way dip$hit, Fedex will not hire for at least another year and same with UPS. But I guess you already knew that Since you know everything about everybody. Netjets is a legacy carrier is a new one. Enjoy your life as a commuter puke

Go to Jetblue or anywhere else that will make you happy...that sounds like a pretty tall order though.

I know you didn't mention them, but I'd suggest EOS. Talked to a couple of their pilots and both were very happy. JFK based

You didn't mention it, but honestly I think you'd have to currently be living within driving distance of JFK at the moment for JB to work out any better. Otherwise you are still commuting. And you'd be taking a big paycut to start as a 190 f/o.

How much better would it get for you if you moved to DEN? Is that possible?

How about FLL as a base? I have a few JB guys living near me in Boca, and they seem to love it. They say they do a lot of turns up and down the East Coast. Most are home every night.

If they're doing turns out of FLL, they are ultra senior. Unlike the 1800 or so pilots below them, they are making good money and not working too many days a month.
If you're not in the top 200, JB isn't so hot, unless you're willing to live in NYC and that wll be tough on JB f/o wages.

Hey thanks for the information. Glad you know what you're talking about, oh wise one.

Yo Johnboy,

Looks like you were a CRJ driver (or still are) - I guess you know a lot about puke then. Everyone knows Fedex and UPS won't be hiring for awhile - I was saying he could aim for those carriers over the longrun. Of course Netjets isn't a legacy - but it offers legacy-like stability now and much better pay than it used to after its new TA. I know a few people who have left your glorious JB for Netjets recently because it offers a better package.

But you are too proud at JB to understand that - wow, you are so lucky to be at JB!!!! You should feel so great about yourself. Slow growth, longer upgrade times now, mediocre pay, mediocre benefits relative to some of the other carriers, a Wal-Mart mentality about everything (the list goes on and on). It's not even close to being the "best" job out there - not even close. Mediocre would be an adequate description for JB. And don't forget you get the benefit of constantly flying in and out of fun and easy-going JFK. Wow, how relaxing - I am so envious... Great, go ahead and feel good about your situation.

Don't worry, JB won't even be on my radar when I look to leave the "wonderful" regional I am at right now. Like you, I too will leave the regionals but I will be far more selective.

Merry Christmas

Jeeze...I was just asking some simple advice. LoL

Hey sluggo,

Sorry about the deviation. I would again recommend you consider other operators if you really want to go back East - maybe Delta or CAL if you are considering the NY area. You could sit on a Delta 767ER for years if you like.

Good luck regardless.

Sluggo, I've been in Denver for about 4 years now. You're the first guy I've heard of who wants to get out. Those with whom I've discussed Denver love coming here or are former residents who want to get back.

It's not a knock on you by any stretch. I'm just curious as to why.

And do you think our companies will let us swap our respective seniorities?

Daring to dream...

Since you're senior, it's been great, enjoy jetBlue. :)

Seriously, there is more to life than a job, do what's best for your family.

I think SWA is the new legacy carrier.

How many awards has JB won over the past years? Customers don't think we're bland...Live TV, XM radio, and now internet mail! We have the best LCC product out there. We have the new Terminal 5 to move to at JFK in October 2008. I'm not below the "magic" 200 seniority number, but I'm gonna make $180K this year. I guess that's pretty mediocre! Still shorter upgrade times vs. NWA, UAUA, AMR, SWA, and DAL! We also have the lowest cost per seat mile, even lower than SWA. $300 million coming from LS, probably for capital improvements (ie new interiors or a new Terminal 6). Training has improved and the new facility in Orlando with their new A320 and E-190 sims is state of the art. The future is brighter than most...

Spectre, good for you on your JB W2, but how many hours did you fly this year?
How many RSAs?
Do you live in base?
Are you a check Airman doing transcon line checks, with a deadhead back to base? (BIG Bucks, for no good reason!)
You are obviously very senior, do you recognize that it's a totally different airline lower on the foodchain and that new hires will NEVER see your level of compensation?

Edit to add: Right, JB still has shorted upgrade. Let's add that f/os at other airlines make more money than junior JB Captains!

I'm sure he recognizes it but like most senior guys just doesn't give a sh!t

I love when folks talk about what they don't have a clue about. I guess thats what brings me back to flight info. Anyway, Merry Christmas whatever your choices are....

It's a small industry and most regional guys know people at other airlines and they talk. Perhaps you could elaborate on what he has no clue about?

Don't forget, this is an information forum and most people share their opinions one way or the other (take things with a grain of salt).

I do (take thing with a grain of salt). Thats why I read and don't post much even though I agree/disagree. But some twist a nerve sometime. I work for JB and he/she said some things that just aren't true. JB has a lot of problems, I don't deny that. But until you walk the shoes of that airline pilot then....well I gotta get back to my eggnog (spiked). Oh yeah, Happy Holidays to all and be safe out there.

NYC area?....definitely go for Delta or Continental. From what I hear, many at Continental have been hired into the right seat of B767 and flying international routes.

Stay away from Jetblue as they are a non-union carrier.
