Sorry to ask vauge questions but any one care to comment on working here? hiring? pay/hotel in training?

I live in Chicago and would consider them....

Thanks in advance

Life is not bad at all. The basics:

41.40 starting second yr 58 I think.
12 days off min line holder, 11 reserves
10hr reserve shifts, 24hr long call
lines and trips are very diverse and it is easy to trade/drop whenever (although there is nothing to trade with right now)
full pay in training, and it is a very low stress event

I am happy here. Growth will not happen for a while so if your looking for a cont style upgrade I would look elsewhere. TPG thing will finalize in Jan or Feb. Maybe we will get some word about the future in the spring.

is it a 2 hour call out on rsv? could it be done from the Chicago area without a crash pad?

what type of flight benefits for family and friends?

thanks again

2 hr callout on short call.

12 hr callout on long call.

they can shift two of your long call shifts to short call during the month per the contract.

from our contract

The Company may change an RLC to an RSC or an RSC to an RLC for a day or block of days of reserve up to two (2) times per month.

Is Midwest currently hiring? Also how close do they stick to the PIC requirement?

Thanks

i would say it depends on the level of candidates they have. i would say still the number one thing they look at is internal references and they love locals (cheeseheads and chicagoans). once you get the interview the job is yours to lose.

they are currently hiring for classes in january, february, and march. they are telling people they expect to hire 25 people for next year and they only have 9 people in the hiring pool.

How does QOL/pay differ from the 717 to the MD80? I noticed most of the MD80 fly the longer routes to LA, PHX, etc. Are the MD80s EFIS equipped? If offered a choice, which fleet would be preferable and why for a newhire?

well usually the BEST qol is with the largest fleet in any airline.......that being said:

the MD80 does day trips mostly, so if you're a local you'll love the schedule. the reserve guys aren't flying too much. aren't 83's and higher EFIS equipped? if so we have 2 MD88's. the two new ones I do not know if they are 83/88's or 81/82's. there are 2 81's configured strictly for charter (70 something seats, plush interior).

the 717 has 1,2,3, and 4 day trips. it's a mix. 717 has plenty of long flights from MCI: LAX, SAN, SFO, MCO, FLL, RSW, BOS, LGA.

we have a universal CA/FO payscale (ie 80=717 pay). the 717 guys probably make more due to increased per diem and schedule flexibility.

All the -80's are EFIS but the 4 -88's have an IRS system and the rest have the HT9100 system. You will learn both if you are -80 trained. I don't think you will get a choice between the 717 and the -80 as a new hire. The exception might be skipping a class start to get the airplane you want. But that would cost you seniority numbers.

I'm in the pool Class date?

Has anybody heard that is in the pool which class they will be in? I know that I am in either Jan. of Feb. but have not heard which one. Please let me know. I was hired on Aug 3rd interviewed on Aug 2nd.

Wedding went good. It was really nice to drop off the planet for a few weeks and not think about work or anything. Its funny now we don't see each other hardly at all. I come home she leaves. Cuts down on arguments:). Happy holidays!

Hey Citationlover...how many people have been leaving Midwest lately for "greener pastures"? Any idea when they will actually do interviews for those classes in early '08?

Why in the hell would you want to come to Midwest right now? unless you want to retire flying the right seat, then come on over :)

And, Yes I had two beers

I know that 2 guys left recently for sure (Continental and NWA).

this is speculation...

i would imagine the january and half the february class are already filled with the pool.

they are interviewing through mid december and will pick it back up after the holidays. don (the chief pilot) is telling those at the interviews that through attrition and retirements they expect to hire 25 people in 2008.

from an internal newsletter, an article don wrote
...We are planning on attrition and retirees to initiate hiring about 25 new hires for 2008....

now now flywolf, you live in wisconsin? if so, two beers is pretty lightweight for that state. :)
