The sale refered to to, i think is actually the 'put' in the ACMI. Dhl had know choice.

My guess is this is a chop chop at the Evergreen air center, not long term storage!

I dont think so, but who really knows? The rest of the fleet that were chopped up were at Grissom. Why send them to the boneyard for scrap when you already have done it so close to home?

I think they may end up as scrap, but there is a reason they went there.

p.s.- especially how efficiently Grissom worked. They were all lined up and less than one month later not one remained. Shocked many as to how fast they chopped so many aircraft.

At least some of the elevators from the 9s went to Motoart (from the show Wing Nuts a few years ago) to become desks or conference tables. You too can own a piece of ABX!

Are you talking about good old KGUS Grissom? I flew tankers there years ago. Never knew they did chop shop work there now. Must be a nice deal for jobs in the area. It wasn't exactly depressed at the time, but it wasn't booming either.

Haven't flown over it during daylight hours in a long time, but if I had, I sure would have been wondering what all those planes were doing there!

Jurassic Jet

Your Avitar has/can cause severe carpal tunnel syndrome. May be to my "power grip" ref:http://www.arthroscopy.com/sp04004.htm

Bought a set of those a while back and havent seen them in years. Hope someone is having a good time.

Hey b707, when were you at KGUS ? I was in the 68th ARefS '61 - '65. It was BHL then. Are some of those 9's original Delta's ?

Just a wee bit later- '87-'91. The Hustlers were there at Bunker Hill during your stay, if I remember? Would love to have seen/heard/felt them fly!

Thanks for the link, TWA!

The squadron designation changed from 68 to 305 about 2 months before I left.
I still haven't found out if any of the ABX DC-9's were ex-Delta planes.
The B-58's were something to watch on takeoff. Whenever there was a MITO exercise scheduled, off duty people would drive out to the base just to watch.

N900AX -> N905AX were ex-Delta. Don't know if any of them have been cut up yet. I used to have a list of the serial #'s and the ex-Delta ship #'s around somewhere. I doubt I can find it now though. It's been rather a long time since I flew the -9's.

900AX--904AX (our first 4 DC9's) came from Delta.
905 was an ex-Evergreen freighter I believe. Don't know thw tail numbers that went to Grissom.

Is 900ax the only one in the abx paint job? Are the remaining 9s and 76s going to be painted as abx or dhl?
