I think you mean the change in age 60 will change the game.

How about some more consolidation?

How about the simple fact that conditions never pan out like you're predicting?

I just think it's completely ridiculous to project that far out, especially with an outfit like US Airways. All advancement will stagnate when the next merger is being worked out behind closed doors, then......wham! There you are somewhere on a list with 10 more years, minimum, to upgrade.

And, trust me, not one pilot who is physically capable of flying to 65 is going to opt out early. They've got a lot of catching up to do on retirement funds.

Sorry to rain on the sunshine in this thread, but please.....a little reality should be interjected now and then.

Hate to have to tell you this but these factors are generally called and accepted by most normal people, as "Facts of life."

I know, I know. We are , of course, always in a quest for absolute protection from these things and they (whoever "they" are) owe it to us since we signed up for it.

But, in the event that you found out that there is no such thing as absolute protection, there is plenty of other career choices out there that are all performance based. And, you will do great if you have what it takes and have "guts to claim your own stake."

Dirk -

Not sure who you are talking to, here, but I'm certainly well versed in the "facts of life" you are alluding to. I'm only trying to get the FI.com crowd to understand reality.

How many will flow?

I don't fly with the southern crews much and most of the senior ALG I talk to won't flow to mainline so I don't have a good idea of how many will flow. For those that have a better grasp, how many CAs system wide are expected to take the flow thru when/if it goes through? What if only the preferential hiring is what we get? Or are the CAs gonna stay and try to get the 400 rates? With the low number of apps, was this due to the fact that we deserve better than pref hiring and waiting for the flow? Just curious how many will leave to get an idea of how many will actually upgrade next year if we go back to a full schedule of flying lines.

Let me get this straight...

Mainline is hiring/accepting resumes from guys off the street, right?

Are wholly owned guys getting preference over street guys as of now?

If a flow-thru happens for yall, how will you fair seniority-wise against the guys hired before you that were non-wholly owned?

just talked to one more senior ca today an he will be in an interview class later this month

So which is it, an interview?

Or an class??????

What do you mean by an interview class??

sorry, interview, not class, just an interview. The way he made it sound it was going to be very easy. Just a sit down and chat, no sim and no written test. We shall see.

Of course we deserve flow. The interview is an insult to those who have been giving up money in their paychecks all those years. We have yet to see any preferential hiring actually occur... And it appears none will be in class till at least March...

Thanks...

I got a call today late this afternoon from both my chief pilot and a guy from airways today but I was out in the yard and missed the calls...... they didn't leave any great detail just asked that I call them back when I get a chance.

Thanks...

That's because you got caught in the jetway again with a certain captain.

"I yam what I yam"

You have to remember we can not leave until March, so what is the big hurry to apply.

The big rush is that to be considered for the first round of interviews you had to have your app in by 11/2. If they continue to exhaust this pool of people before moving on to those who missed the deadline, you may find yourself with a lower mainline number than someone who was junior to you at PDT.

I was 1 of the pilots called. I told them no way was I interested in going to mainline at this time. In my case 10 years left (maybe 15), and you want me to commute to PHL & be a reserve FO for some jerk who is mad at the entire world and single handedly is trying to destroy the airline. No thanks.

On this latest call for interest, consider several issues:

1. Flow-through that is part of our CBA no matter what anyone says. Let's not even argue about it, there are pilots at mainline now who came from ALG/PDT yet never applied or interviewed and some how showed up in a mainline class, and by the way, never had to resign from their original carrier.

2. Then "preferential hiring" is offered to pilots at PDT/PSA while the entire flow-through is being worked out. But you have to apply, interview, then get the job offer. Oh & there is a catch, you can't leave your host carrier until March 08.

3. Now these mysterious phone calls to pilots asking if they are interested in a Dec 07 class & possibly a Nov 07 class. Since I wasn't interested I didn't ask what was required to be considered for a position/interview at mainline.

Now I am no attorney, but I think someone in USAirways legal department is try to head off a grievance & possible discrimination lawsuit.

Yep. ALPA and the Company at their best. Somehow those pilots you are referring to were hired, got profit sharing and stock options, and yet there were 1700+ mainline pilots on furlough.
And one wonders why ALPA is dying.

That, believe it or not, probably has more to do with PSA's inability to staff its operation. March is as soon as they can see letting go of their J4J pilots without the whole operation shutting down. What a bunch of a$$holes that run that place. When they heard they could hold J4J pilots "up to" nine months, they of course delayed hiring for, um, nine months!

3. Now these mysterious phone calls to pilots asking if they are interested in a Dec 07 class & possibly a Nov 07 class.

Figures. Just another way of pissing people off. Hundreds of furloughed pilots held at the regionals and US Airways takes on new hires. Given two choices, one that respects people and their contributions, or one that is disrespectful and causes resentment, this company will almost always choose the latter.

I think you made a good choice to stay put.

Hey Captzaahlie,

Yeah, I was working on an 11th but I don't want to spread myself too thin......

(You're right that did seem a little out of context....:0 I guess I meant to say I know them all pretty good and I'm sure they will all do well representing the rest of us)
