Got an offer for a 135 flying the Hawker 1000 Pay around $75,000 a year or head up an aviation department with a new company that just purchased a PC 12 paying $90,000 a year. It is a growing company with the potential to buy a jet later....time frame unknown. I like to travel around the country, but QOL can be hard. The PC 12 will just be a commuter airplane. any thoughts?

The Hawker 1000 job sounds like Segrave, since there are not many Hawker 1000's out there. If so, the QOL will not be all that great, if that is what you are looking for. If you like to travel a lot, the 135 job sounds best, but if you just want the money, then the PC12 job may be best.

My son flew for an airline for 6 years, then he thought he wanted a better QOL and quit for a 91 gig flying a Cessna Citation, and was home every day with week-ends and holidays off, but the pay was capped after 2 years. The other problem was the flights that he had, 250 miles running a shuttle----boring job, no travel, a lot of sitting around---but home every night. He quit that job and went back to the airlines, and has no regrets, since he flies with SWA now.

So you have to ask yourself what is more important, money, QOL, or flying all over the country 16 days a month. The other thing too think about is, what direction do you want to go in your career, if it is airlines, forget about the 91 gig, and pursue the airlines while working with the Hawker job.

Hope my input helps, but no one can make the final decision except YOU.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Hmmm.....PC12 = $90K a year and less work, Hawker = $75K a year and MORE work. Ummm......what is the question here? I'd take the PC12 in a heartbeat.

I am a QOL guy. I don't give 2 flaming rat turds what I fly. I care about 2 things: how much money I make and how much time off I have. You put me in a C-150 with a great paycheck and QOL, I'll fly the wings off the damn thing. Me flying a super neato jet does nothing for my family life and seeing my kids grow up. I'll take the C-150 anyday. :)

Well, I have no desire to fly for the airlines, so the hawker job dosn't do me a whole lotta good. The pc 12 guys just uped it to 95 a year.

95K per year to fly and manage PC12?!?! Where do I send a resume?

Wait a sec... is this the first airplane this outfit has owned? Have you done a background check on the operator? It almost sounds too good to be true, so I'd start wondering about this one.

My $.02

This is a tough one. The question is, do you want QOL now or later? Having lots of Hawker time is better on a resume than a SE turbine. What is better for your career in the long run? For me it would depend on how likely they are going to upgrade into a jet. No one can pin point it but is the company in a growth sector (medical, oil, info tech., etc.) or in a flat sector (restaurants and others) ? Good luck with your decision, this is a good problem.

Looks like you already have some jet experience, so hopefully you're over the jet syndrome, if that's the case, why even ask? $95,000 all the way.

You didn't mention if the two gigs are based at the same place........just another factor to add in, but don't forget that $95K in the Bay area or Vail, vs. $75K in Des Moines can be a big differential. (Not to mention the vast spectrum of QOL that those locations span!)
And, (maybe since I don't really have a life!), I'm one of those guys that includes quality-of-job-time in the whole QOL equation, but many pilots view QOL as applying to time off at home only. Just depends on your frame of reference. Good luck, I'll bet plenty of pilots would wish for the two choices you have, instead of "ramen noodles, chicken or beef?"

Don't forget, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 95K to fly a single engine, ummmm---makes one wonder.
If it is true, they should be willing to put it into a contract. I was duped once with this type of offer, and after I quit my job, moved, and then showed up for the job, guess what? NO AIRPLANE, AND NO JOB, and NO 100K A YEAR. I did get my old job back, but the expense moving cost me 3k. Sooooo, be careful and good luck.

Take the PC12 offer to the Hawker guys and see if they will raise their offer a bit if they really want you. I believe that 1000 hours of Hawker 1000 time will put you in a better position for other jobs if you want them. Sure, $95K is unbelievable for the PC12 job (fantastic), but it will probably cap out there if they don't get a jet for awhile - you never know.

I would take the Hawker job if they offered $80K or more. If they won't budge, take the PC12 job and have fun.

agreed, if the 1000 job is in NC walk away at everyone's rec. same for the place in Maine, if it's the place in upstate NY ask for more money and get all expectations laid down ahead of time on paper if possible.....otherwise fly that PC-12 to the bank and memorize best glide speed :=)

I have to agree with most, I know all of the 1000 operators mentioned in icefr8dawg's post and with the exception of the upstate NY corp, I wouldn't recommend any. NC gig is awful, period. ME is not as bad (maybe), but 7-900 hrs per yr...no real sched=short term unless you never want to have a life.

Personally, the 12 gig sounds fantastic. The 1000 is a great airplane to fly, nicest of the hawkers by far, but like everything else it wears off. QOL is the only thing that will matter in the long run. I am leaving a 1000 job right now to go to a turboprop captain gig at a regional if that tells you anything.

I've spoken to all 3 operators of the 1000's (not many of us typed and current guys out there) and would be happy to tell you what I and others know, just PM me.

PC-12 gig, hands down. You have jet types already and decent experience, another 1000 hours of Hawker time and $3.59 will get you a Starbucks cup of coffee.

The management experience and better QOL will pay off much better in the long run.

Wait, nevermind, take the Hawker gig and I know this guy who can help out with the PC-12 job...

Don't know if they filled the positions but the place is called First Flight out of Elmira. They were hiring into a 1000 they manage. CP sounded like a nice guy with the normal managment company expectations but I couldn't see moving up there at that point it was on the table. I believe the pay was 80 ish... probably do-able in that area.

In any event they've got to be better than Seagrave, oops I said it, damm... Hawker pilots have a good list of crummy operators with HS-125's listed in A008

Take the PC-12 job! More money and Part 91. Not even a contest to me.

We have a PC-12 managed at my company and I request every week to move from the G-IV to the PC-12... I never get a response!

Actually, FlyFlyFly has the better idea. We work at the same place so I know how he feels!
