NJ Bound??

Hey folks.. Im starting to think about my next career move aftern MESA. And NJ is one of my top choices. But the only thing worrying me about them is a commute and being a "servant" to Mr. Money Bags.

How easy is it to commute?(since there isnt any CASS or ETc. etc.)

Bases? (junior and senior)

Happy???

Any complaints?

I dont work there but I understand after this IBB there will be over 100 ( guess ) bases. So maybe you wont have to commute....I am thinking about it too.....the new pay scale is good as any legacy and that is base pay and not to mention the QOL is great .......and a good thing is fuel can go up and the cost will be passed on to the customers, unlike legacies where the cose gets passed on to the employee.

I made the jump from Mesa to NJA in March. I just moved to CMH. It was one of the best decisions I made. If the IBB passes then you shouldn't have a problem finding a crewbase near you. However with the Pay increase and new Basing system its going to be very hard to get on here. So if you are thinking you want to work here just put in an app asap. (make sure you do meet the mins there is no exceptions)

Since NJA doesn't have any jumpseat agreements, commuting is easy, but expensive. The easy part is that you don't have to worry about getting on the plane because you bought the ticket, but the bad part is there are many of our guys that spend anywhere from $300 to $500 a month in airline tickets.

Basing isn't like at Mesa. You live where you want, just have to get to your crew base by your start time on day 1.

Happy? Yup.

Complaints? Too many Mesa pukes. (JUST KIDDING!!!)

Leave the iPod at home...

...but don't worry about "moneypants". Most of the owners are great and being a "servant" is not the way to look at it. Just treat them with courteousy and keep in mind that they paid a LOT of money for our SERVICE, so give 'em just that; great service, not servitude. Nobody expects you to lick shoes, just provide excellent service.
Nothing you experience here will be worse than what that sunnofabitchin' JO does to you guys.
Insofar as commuting goes, crew bases after IBB should make it easy. If not, a short commute is worth it (easy for me to say, a pre-rat guy!). I love this place and though it's a lot more work than airline flying, I'd quit flying before going back to the airlines.

I agree with fisch. IF the IBB passes there will be 100 bases to choose from. IF not, it is the same old five for the next 2 years plus. Buy tickets or drive is the only solid way.

Dealing with the rich and famous - Get used to it. They're just like everyone else, most good and easy going, they just have a lot of money.

Happy - This is the last stop on my career if I can help it and I'm not even 40. I don't ever want to go back to the airlines. Yes, I am very happy.

Complaints - Dealing with other pilots that complain just to hear themselves complain. There is little if anything to complain about at this job. That and Mesa guys being bottom feeders. Just kidding. No I'm not. No really, I'm not.

why would it be very hard?... i have about 3 more years until i head to NJ. gotta build the time along with the 1000hours PIC tubine. I know that its not required. but its something i want...

Then stay at the exciting career that MESA has to offer. You can either "deal with Mr. Moneybags" or take it in tha a$$ from JO... good luck waiting 3 years. Your timing would be awesome.

I think he said it would be hard becasue at a starting pay higher than ALL the majors and more than most RJ Captains make after maybe 6-7 years there will be a huge pile of resumes and yours would be competing with alot of other guys with equal or more time. I have friends that are 7-8 year Comair Cpts. seriously thinking about applying.

It is going to be harder to get on here if the IBB passes because everyone and their brother has already started to apply. So statistically speaking your odds are less the longer you wait or in the very least your "time to interview" will increase. Hiring will continue for years to come on orders alone. Add to that attrition of around 100+/- pilots per year. In short, seniority matters so the sooner the better.

well I'm kinda in between a rock and a hard place... don't have the ATP yet, nor the 2500hours. it will take around 2 1/2yr to get that.

Now that is the attitude we are looking for, great customer service right around the corner. Not the correct way to look at it. Maybe you would be happier dealing with the stellar mangement where you work...

You are not ready to think about your next career move. From what you have wrote, you have minimal time which means you have minimal experience. You need a good deal of both and an ATP before you can even apply. I think you are putting the cart before the horse a little my friend. I could understand if you want to move to a different regional..., anyway, good luck with Freedom.

Or, actually the most beautiful and friendly girl I think I've ever met (my wife of course! No this other one) MAn what an angel! I was so envious of the guy she was with. They parked us at "5 points", We asked if she needed a ride to the FBO, she said no, her brother was beinging the car around (fantsay still lives!!!)

Don't worry about Mr. Money bags. How much interaction do you have with a cab driver or a van driver from the hotel when you travel? (Actually, I talk to them all the time) The only difference between them and you is they weren't afraid to take a chance.

Either way, You had probably stay with the cattle and leave the actresses to us if you cannot interact well with other human beings without being intimidated.
