Just out of curiosity, didn't your contract at one point read that if a junior pilot was awarded Captain and a more senior pilot could hold it, that those senior pilots would receive Captain pay? If they are hiring street captains that are tacked onto the bottom of the list, wouldn't all FO's then get Captain pay, as strictly based on seniority (not hours), there are FO's senior to those captains?

I must be missing something (or forgetting all the verbage that was in the contract) as I can't ever see that scenario happening.

The difference between my situation and the others that haven't been awarded Captain is that they have bypassed it voluntarily, or don't have the time to take the upgrade. I have taken it as quick as possible.

The FO's senior to the street captians: 1. don't meet atp mins therfore can't hold capt position thus no captain pay. 2. have choosen for whatever reason not to upgrade therefore have not been awarded capt position thus no capt pay. or 3. have bid and been awarded a capt position but have been bypassed in order to keep the jets flying ... these guys will get paid at captain rates once a pilot junior to them becomes cpt. the bypass is for a set amount of time (but I can't remember what the number is ... 120 days maybe). Unfortunatly at this company you aren't paid like a cpt until the fed ride or completion of IOE which ever occurs last. This sucks for multiple reasons but maybe the worst is that, from what I have heard, IOE is running 3-5 weeks after sim ... and we will be paid guarantee at our FO rates. From what I have read and heard, once we start sims we can no longer pick up open time as fo's even though we would still be qualified.

You aren't eligible for bypass CA pay unless you are eligible for the CA position (23 years old + ATP mins), and have actually BID for the specific captain position (Domicile + Aircraft). Then if the company chooses to bypass you for someone junior, you will get bypass pay.

If enough eligible pilots aren't bidding for MEM or DTW Saab Captain, then no one is being bypassed.

The last two posts are correct, but if these street captains get captain pay right away, there will be someone junior to me making captains pay while I am on FO pay, and I took the upgrade as soon as I could. I am sure this is a moot point, because the company will pay as little as possible for as long as possible.

I sure hope you get Captain pay for selfish reasons. Once you guys start class they will have to bump the rest of us in Captain class up to Captain pay!! Woo Hoo!!

hey for all of you that are coming to training at XJ, some advice. when you are told you must know your flows and your profiles BEFORE SIMS, do us all a favor and know them....study them.......dont be an a$$ and show up like my sim partner and not even know his acceptance flow.....waisting my sim time and my training........oh and know JEP plates before the sim......jesus, NOS plates will not help you. oh, do not give idiotic advice to your captain......no you do not know more than he or she does......oh, and if you are going to the jet, does not mean you are better, or special........it means you are still on the bottom of the senority list.........oh oh yes, and will upgrade to the saab.......good luck
