So I was reading on airliners.net about recent info about the new eastern. There was an article in airliners or airways a few months back about it. Apparently, they will be an LCC in MIA but on the back of an exsisting certificate. My guess is it will be Falcon Air but anything is possible. Any insight or info please post.

There is a new Eastern in the works. A friend of mine had lunch with a consultant for the new Eastern. Obviously, he couldn't reveal too much but did say the new Eastern would be based out of MIA and would offer low fare, high quality service (like Virgin America) to South and Central America, the Caribbean, and various cities throughout North America. No A/C type was mentioned nor a start up date (but certainly within the next year or two). The individuals who had this conversation have unquestionable credibility. Take it for what it's worth.

Your friend is probably correct. There was a recent trademark application filed for a variation of the name "Eastern Air Lines", spelled "Eastern Airlines".

The original trademark is still owned by the Bankruptcy Trustee from the real EAL. If anyone actually tries to use the name, they will probably need to buy the real name from the Bankruptcy Trustee, or face a lawsuit for trademark infringement.

If the Midwest merger had gone through, I half-expected AirTran management to purchase the name, and trot out the combined carrier as Eastern Airlines reconstituted, 20 years later (and at the same pay rates, unadjusted for inflation  ).

Ron Bevans, the trustee, stated in the Airways artical that the all the trade marks had been sold to a single buyer.

"Airways" is Airways Magazine. They had an article about a year and a half ago about Eastern. At the end they mentioned that the name and trademark were recently sold to and undisclosed buyer who said they fully intended to use it on an existing carrier.

When I was still at AT I was the one spreading the rumor that after the Midwest deal we would become Eastern. It only took about six months for it to get back to me. :D
