Does anyone know how frequently they are conducting interviews and how often are the new hire class dates? Also, are all new hire going to the e190 or are some going to the Airbus and 737?

I have an interview this week. Don't know how often they are conducting interviews but they had limited availability for me to pick a date. From what I researched, I think most new hires will go to the E190 in PHL. Maybe a few will get the Airbus or 75 out of PHX. I doubt any will get the 737 as they are slowly getting rid of them. Still trying to find new gouge for interview, I've mainly been using old AWA gouge to prep.
 
Make sure you go in with the attitude that Airways is just a stepping stone to a real major. I've truned down my final recall with no regrets. USAir is equivalent to how TWA was in its final years. It's only a stepping stone.

hmmm...sounds more like bitterness than good advice. Last year US Airways made 500,000,000 profit and this year we are THE most profitable passenger carrier, ahead of SWA. We have over 30 widebody aircraft on order and management is out shopping for some additional A340's. We are currently negotiating a new contract and anyone hired today will be looking at a huge number of retirements over the next 10 years.

Doesn't sound like TWA to me....What we do have is massive infighting due to the East pilot group's distaste of the arbitration award.
 
I have heard, and I'm only seeking clarification so please don't yell at me, that the new-hire package stipulates something like $40K/year for the first 3 years(or something like this) and either a Philly or DCA base.

This is to ask: Can anyone shed some light on what the newhires can expect?

I don't think that is the case. First year pay on the E190 is something like 41/hr so 40k your first year sounds reasonable. I would imagine you could bid into the A320 after a year or so as that will be the growth aircraft. Second year pay on the 320 is currently 60/hr and third year is 70. Assuming we have a new contract by the time you get off probation you could safely add 10-15% to those numbers. PHL is the junior base so plan on living or commuting there.

Of course another merger could change everything....

PIT base just closed.
1 week of vacation per year for first 7 YEARS!
50% DH pay
Probably no new contract until 2012

Does the 401K have any matching?

Bingo! Just another cranky East furlough. The more that don't take the recall, the better for the company.

For those placed on the West side its:
4 weeks vacation a year
100% DH pay

Except USAIR actually is profitable.

Retirements like crazy are coming up.

5 A340's coming

I really think for a "young" newhire this is going to be a pretty good place. If you are in your early 30's or younger you can expect to retire inside the top 100 at the company.

Some newhires will get the 737 or AB on the east side, not just the E190. E190 is only a 12 mo freeze anyway. First year pay is actually HIGHER on the E190 then on the B737/AB. After 1st year though it goes the other way.
 
Actually, I think LGA is the jr. base.

No 401k matching, but a 10% DC plan. Also DH is at 50% but there's some stuff in there where if it's only at 50% it's paid on top of guarantee, and then there's some stipulations where it's actually 100% pay, (grievance won on that) and also min. pay of 5hrs, in other cases or some crap.....

PIT base just closed, CLT getting majority of that time with DCA getting some of it. PHL not getting any of the PIT time.

On the East side, the 190 is 41/hr. 1st year. New Hire on Grp II (a320 737) is salaried at 38k I think, or maybe a base pay??? Also on the east side on full pay/per diem/benefits 1st day of class. hotel is paid for.

West side, from what others have said, per diem only? medical after 90 days, and hotel not paid for???
 
Info for the West contract and any new hire put on the west Contract.

Health benefits and travel day one.
3 weeks vacation the first year.
starting pay $36,000 first year on 757/737/Airbus
Pay Guarantee 77 hrs reserve, 78 lineholder
5:30 min a day
100% deadhead pay
10% 401K contribution, employee does not have to contribute to get it.
Aggressive pickup for reserves
Long and Short call reserve, though long call is senior, pay guarantee the same

Bad things on west side, new hire pays for housing during training, no per diem during training. During training pretty much all people in the past got a crash pad to live in.

E190 aircraft are not on West side and pay is covered in transition agreeement.
 
This place is a mess. Do yourself a favor and get hired by a real airline. This place will be out of business within the next 5 years. Take it from someone on the inside watching the downhill slide over the last 20 years.
 
Hi everyone,

All jokes aside, what does it take to get an interview with US. I know they have their problems, but so do all the other majors. It sounds better than being at the regionals another 35 years. I'm from NC so I'd really like to work at US and be based in CLT. I have my app in but haven't heard anything. I have 2 types, 7000tt, 2700tpic, no violations etc...
 
If given an interview do you specifically interview for the east side or west side? Or do they just hire you and then decide where you're going to go? Interesting situation me thinks...
Also, could get even more interesting if the east guys de-cert ALPA (not sure if that's still going to happen as I've not kept up on the goings of it).

I believe that on the East side of the house. You get full pay + per diem + company paid hotel during training. At least that is the way it was; as far as I know it has not changed.

West side I read on here.... full pay, but no hotel.

For what it is worth... things really are not THAT bad here. It is a pretty good gig really as far as many flying jobs go.

Yeah, you can be like my friend when I asked if he wanted a recommend for AWA. "No I'm holding out for Fed Ex" Guess where he is. Yep still a turboprop captain flying 4-7 legs a day. Best of luck.

Back in the late 90's the quickest way to offend someone was to offer to help him get on at AWA.

It was funny to listen to them babble on "well...but...you know....I'm shootin for.... already got my stuff in at.....blah blah blah." I couldn't help but think of Cousin Eddy of the Vacation movies explaining to Clark how his relative, unemployed for the last 6 years, was holding out for a management position.
